In this latest Urban Topics instalment, I take a look at NI's 4 newest train stations - Portrush, Derry, York Street, and the new Belfast Grand Central.

Reposting from the future: No, they did not change Glenmarie 2 back to Glenmarie.
I really don’t get why we need to do this. Both STAR and PUTRA Masjid Jamek stations shared a name during the pre-ticketless transfer days. What’s special about LRT3 Glenmarie that it needs a “2”?
Starting 2025 with a post on LRT 3/Shah Alam Line. Temporary banner signage have been up at Glenmarie on the KJ line side for some time now.
Spot "Glenmarie 2" on the 1st sign. Yes, the LRT3 station is named separately from the existing KJ line station - some thoughts on this.
6) Summary
It’s early days, but the line been in the works for 10 years and with how public the project has been the line’s hamstrings have been known for a while. I’ll revisit it after opening week, and hopefully take a better look at the rest of it.
Rebooting this account to share some preliminary impressions of the new Shah Alam Line (LRT3), after a short ride from Bandar Utama during the evening rush.
In general, it’s a welcome addition to the transit landscape, but it does have some obvious flaws (cont. below)
5) Station renaming
There was a last minute name change for 2 of the stations, one of which is SS7 station by the edge of Kelana Jaya. It’s now “Subang” station, not to be confused with the existing Subang Jaya station and townships. Nowhere near Kampung Melayu Subang either!
(cont) This is probably a done deal at this point. But I'm holding out hope that @myrapidkl changes "Glenmarie 2" to "Glenmarie".
There's literally nothing to lose from keeping the station names identical, and my guess is @askrapidkl will deal with less pax confusion too.

(cont) Not to mention that this is inconsistent with the SA Line's own naming convention: Bandar Utama LRT is connected to Bandar Utama MRT. No "Bandar Utama 2" there.
"Glenmarie 2" is also inconsistent with other interchange stations on the network. Too many to list here.
Seeing a Vienna U Bahn platform with PSDs is a bit jarring, but plus points for better safety.
And that probably, definitely means the days of opening only one side of the doors will come to an end eventually.
The half height platform screen doors at KL Sentral and Tun Sambanthan monorail stations are finally working!
Just took them around 10 years + or so ….
