Tell Politicians the Truth — Especially If They’re Your Candidate. That’s Democracy.

Democracy does not require blind loyalty. It requires honesty.
When citizens reserve criticism only for the other side and shield their own candidates from scrutiny, they turn democracy into a team sport. Power escapes accountability. Mistakes multiply. Public trust erodes.
The principle is simple: elected officials are temporary stewards of public authority, not members of a protected tribe. Truth is not partisan. Facts about competence, integrity, policy outcomes, and character do not change according to party affiliation. Applying different standards of honesty depending on who holds office is a quiet form of corruption.
Classical and modern democratic theory both insist on this point. Popular sovereignty means the people retain the right—and the duty—to judge those who govern them. Free speech exists so that inconvenient truths can surface. Deliberative democracy depends on citizens and media willing to confront reality rather than protect allies. Without that willingness, elections become rituals of affirmation instead of mechanisms of correction.
Holding “your” candidate to the same standard as the opposition is not disloyalty. It is the highest form of democratic loyalty: loyalty to the system that keeps power answerable. It is how republics stay free and how citizens remain free within them.
Speak the truth anyway. Especially when it is uncomfortable. That is not betrayal. That is democracy.

Nobody is asking the Minister of Works to fix every road in Nigeria.
But the important economic corridors that millions use every day should not be left to rot while government chases elephant projects.
The Benin–Agbor–Asaba road is one of those corridors. Traders lose perishables. Families lose hours. Businesses bleed. People suffer.
The Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway may be a long-term project, but it should not come at the cost of lives, goods and daily survival on roads that already serve the economy.
Fix the roads people actually use first. Provide makeshift relief where full reconstruction will take time. That is simple check and balance.
A country cannot celebrate new projects while its existing economic arteries are collapsing.
