I worked in the Orange County public school system several years ago in CA. I was a counselor. I had access to their grades to see how they were doing in school. I had kids that were flunking every class. They were moved on to the next grade anyway. When I asked why they said they did not have room to hold the kids back. Leah’s passing has shown me just how close our community has become. I didn’t know her IRL, in fact, I only learned her name the other day, but her passing hurt deeply.

We often say we’re a tribe, a community, stronger together. Those words have never felt more true. Nothing could have prepared me for the sense of loss I, like so many others, have felt.

It’s strange how someone you’ve never met in person can touch your life simply by sharing the same space, the same struggles, the same love for our people. Leah was part of our community, and her absence is felt.

May her memory forever be a blessing. 🕯️💙
