The UK prison staff turnover is at the highest it has ever been, and most prisons are drastically understaffed and for the staff we do have, most are inexperienced or lacking care, creating further problems for those locked up and taking away from the support they actually need.

@PrisonR4rmAct It’s funding. All public sectors are falling to bits currently. Prisons, nhs, mental health units, care homes, local councils, all underfunded so they fail so they can be privatised probably, that’s the Tory way. Staff are leaving in droves too. It’s worrying.

The IMB has said that loss of property has caused extreme frustration for many prisoners in HMP Belmarsh over the past year and is “apparently down to lack of staff”. There have even been occasions when prisoners have not been able to shower due to lack of staff.
