The Multiscale Muscle Mechanophysiology (M3) lab uses computational & experimental approaches to study the form, function, biology & diseases of skeletal muscle
Introducing: Dr. McCrady! @mccrady_allison’s defense talk describing her novel work imaging and modeling muscle in neuromuscular diseases was “ultra” high “quality”, filled with a large “quantity” of interesting findings with “strong” clinical implications! @UVABME#muscleiscool
Introducing Dr. DiSalvo! From adding force-velocity to constitutive models to modeling superior constrictor muscle activation in the pharyngeal wall, Matt’s 'superior' defense talk 'transmitted' many contributions that will 'speed' up progress in the field! @UVABME#muscleiscool
Our own Megan Haase is a 'role' 'model' for how to 'fuse' experiments and models to advance muscle science. Her @ORSsociety talk: "Coupling Experimental and Computational Methods for Insight into Estrogen’s Role in Skeletal Muscle Regeneration" was awesome! #muscleiscool
Can muscle models also be applied to coming 'up' with award winning gingerbread houses?? Apparently yes, because the @UvaM3Lab also won the BME 2023 gingerbread competition, with a beautiful 'model' of the house from the movie "Up"! @UVABME
Can muscle models be applied to winning at tug of war?? The @UvaM3Lab knows, but we'll never share our secrets! Thanks to friends from the @cbhighley, @MFallahiSichani, and @UVAEaSIL labs for helping us "pull" off yet another @UVABME tug of war tournament title!!
This👇is a beautiful example of the "type" of impactful work that collaboration across fields can produce. So thankful to work on this paper with Sue Brookes, Kate Saul @MoBLNCSU, and Karyn Esser @kaesser, who are all "forces" to be reckoned with! #muscleiscool#hiddenbuzzballs
@TropoMariosin@mccrady_allison Ridhi (@myofibridhi) “aligned” experiments and models to examine the role of collagen organization on passive muscle mechanics during her presentation and in the three minute thesis competition!
We couldn’t “ASB” any prouder of M3 lab members for showcasing their very “strong” work at #ASB2023!! Thanks to all the organizers and attendees for such a “stimulating” conference! See below for highlights of some “exciting” “moments” from our lab presentations! #muscleiscool
@TropoMariosin@mccrady_allison “Hip” hip hooray to Emily for her poster on the impact of participant height, mass, and sex on hip joint center calculations!
Introducing, DR. Sahani! @myofibridhi gave a “breath”-taking PhD defense describing her research combining multi-scale models and experiments to reveal how ECM structure influences diaphragm muscle mechanics. Her research is making “waves” in the research community! @UVABME
As a leader, teacher, friend, and master-punner (and many other things), Ridhi will be incredibly missed in the lab. We haven’t fully “digested” that she will be gone soon but we hope that she will come visit us “periodically”!
Our PI, Dr. Blemker, continues to demonstrate excellence in all that she does and is an incredible role "model" for us all!! #muscleiscool#Silviaiscooler
New biomechanical models close the treatment gender gap and advance precision medicine for all -- Professor Silvia Blemker's research benefits everyone, including women, the @NBA and the @NFL. @SpringbokTech@UVAEngineers https://t.co/FXwd4Rav64
Congratulations to M3 lab member Ridhi Sahani @myofibridhi for winning the All-University Graduate Teaching award, recognizing her outstanding, “dynamic” co-teaching of BME 2220 Biomechanics as @UVAEngineers teaching fellow! What an amazing “moment” for an amazing person!
🥳Who's the #1 Graduate Teaching Assistant in STEM @UVA?👩🔬
It's Ridhi Sahani in @UvaM3Lab! She's been awarded The Distinguished Graduate Teaching Award in STEM, the top honor for grad instructors in STEM disciplines. WAY TO GO, @myofibridhi!
@UVAEngineers@MedicineUVA
The “muscle myth busters” (Drs. Blemker, Brooks, Esser, and Saul) lead an excellent session on muscle fiber type traps at the #Myology2023 Meeting! These “strong” women scientists are helping the field “soar” to new heights and avoid falling in common “traps”! #MyoTwitter
Congratulations to @biomeganics on an awesome PhD proposal describing her complex models and experiments to uncover the role of estrogen levels on muscle regeneration! Megan has “generated” new ideas for the field and “leveled” up agent based modeling techniques! #muscleiscool
