I voted against funding for DHS. Congress shouldn't pass funding for this lawless agency without major guardrails.
And the House should impeach Kristi Noem.

The @VA8thCDDems came together tonight for their 30th Kennedy Dinner.
It was an honor to deliver the keynote about my work alongside @DonBeyerVA to combat Trump’s reckless agenda.
I’m honored & humbled to have earned the Democratic nomination for the district I’ve spent my career serving. This victory was powered by neighbors, volunteers, and supporters who believe in protecting our democracy, defending our freedoms, and delivering for working families. ⬇️
Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day — @ElectConnolly’s holiest day of the year — in Fairfax County tonight! 🍀 Congressman Connolly, thank you for standing up for Virginians in this difficult moment.
The energy tonight was clear: VA Dems are fired up and ready to win this November!
Today the Senate passed my resolution, SJ 249, to protect marriage equality with bipartisan support. It’s time to bring Virginia into the 21st century.
.@DPVAChair statement on the election results:
From the outset of this cycle, we set a bold goal in Virginia: to build our earliest-ever Coordinated Campaign. In just a few months, we opened 25 offices across the Commonwealth, recruited over 25,000 volunteers, hired 150 staff members, and knocked on more than a million doors.
Donald Trump gained much less ground in Virginia than in most other blue states, including New Jersey, where Trump gained 10.9%, Connecticut (8.9%), New York (10.6%), and Maryland (10.3%). That is a testament to our robust ground game, which ultimately earned Kamala Harris the trust and support of Virginians, and we are proud to have delivered our 13 electoral votes to her.
The national outcome was, of course, not what we had hoped for. In a short time, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz ran a campaign that showcased both a pragmatic vision for improving the lives of hard-working Americans and an unwavering commitment to the values we hold dear as a nation. In her concession speech, Kamala Harris made it clear: the fight for freedom and opportunity will continue.
We want to congratulate our Democratic candidates who triumphed across Virginia. There’s no one better equipped than Senator Tim Kaine to continue serving Virginians in the Senate and uniting our Commonwealth and nation. Eugene Vindman’s success in the Seventh District reflects his strong message to protect democracy and freedoms. We also thank Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger for her leadership in paving the way for leaders like Eugene. Suhas Subramanyam’s victory in the Tenth District highlights his commitment to a better future, and we thank Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton for her exemplary record of service and her steadfast commitment to the district. We also want to congratulate Bobby Scott (VA-03), Jennifer McClellan (VA-04), Don Beyer (VA-08), and Gerry Connolly (VA-11) for their victories and continued leadership.
We commend Leslie Mehta, Missy Cotter-Smasal, Gloria Witt, Ken Mitchell, and Karen Baker, all of whom ran campaigns that elevated important issues and brought new voices and perspectives into the conversation.
In the days ahead, we hope President-elect Donald Trump will rise to the occasion of uniting our country and work to bring all Americans together.
Serving the 8th Congressional District has been the biggest honor of my life, and I am humbled voters in Northern Virginia have again trusted me to represent them in the U.S. House of Representatives.
My statement:
I often hear folks say, “Donald Trump sent me a check during the pandemic.”
I want to make sure you understand this: Congress sent you a check. By the way, Joe Biden also sent you a check during the pandemic, just like I gave people relief during the Great Recession. The difference is that we didn’t put our names on it – because it wasn’t about feeding our egos or advancing our politics, it was about helping people.
So don’t be giving him credit for that. And don’t give him your vote, either. There’s only one candidate in this election who cares about you, and that’s Kamala Harris.
Virginia is the last state in the South without a cruel abortion ban. @TimKaine is working to restore Roe nationwide and stop extremist politicians from restricting women’s reproductive freedoms here in Virginia.
In the Senate, I’ve passed bipartisan legislation that's boosted infrastructure, improved health care, & lowered costs for Virginians. I’ll always bring people together to deliver the best results for Virginians.
Arlington is fired up this morning to vote for @KamalaHarris, @Tim_Walz, @timkaine, @DonBeyerVA and our other amazing Democrats!
Over 100 people waiting in line before the doors opened because they know WE ARE NOT GOING BACK!
My little Future Voter is due to arrive just days before Election Day so I was so excited to get a chance to vote early today!
I was the 500th voter to cast a ballot on the 1st day of early voting in Arlington, Virginia! 🗳️ Many thanks to all of the Election Officers!
