Our mission is simple - to train the well-rounded internist of the future: competent, caring, compassionate and confident in the practice of Internal Medicine.
Reviewing intern and resident abstract submissions to @ACPVirginia this week reminded us of the incredible learning experiences our patients provide us here @VCUHealth. Not to mention the fantastic care you all provide! Keep up the great work and good luck!
Summer lectures here @VCU_IMRes are really a special experience. One unique opportunity is the Intern Summer Series where PGY3s and PGY4s develop their own lecture on a foundational topic (e.g. anemia, abdominal pain, ACS) for our new interns! #MedTwitter#MedEd#residency
Check out these beautiful, edible erythrocytes made from scratch by @sarakwiat to accompany her group’s Anemia presentation to our intern class! What a work of #art!
Whiteboard takeover today during noon conference by PGY2 Ramez Bodair! Sharing his knowledge on everyone’s favorite, and allegedly the most searched topic…hyponatremia!
Group consensus: the combo of 180 mcg albuterol/160 mcg budesonide as needed to reduce risk of severe asthma exacerbation compared to albuterol alone seems promising. Though question the availability of this combo inhaler and the immediate affordability.
Today in journal club: reviewing the MANDALA trial—“Albuterol-Budesonide Fixed-Dose Combination Rescue Inhaler for Asthma” from NEJM 6/2/22 issue DOI 10.1056/NEJMoa2203153

#MorningReport at @VCU_IMRes on hormone replacement therapy in menopause:
✨ Don’t use estrogen alone if uterus is absent (⬆️risk of endometrial cancer)
✨ Use estrogen + progestin if uterus present
✨ Non-hormonal: SSRI/SNRI, gabapentin/pregabalin
What do you use first?
Dare to lead: our official PGY3 Leadership Retreat is in session! Our graduating residents take a moment to reflect on their experiences as a resident and share their hopes and dreams as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. Good luck all!
PGY1, and aspiring cardiologist, Ramez Bodair teaches his co-interns and medical students how to read an ECG! The goal? To prepare everyone should they get pimped on rounds by one of the chief residents 😜#cardiology#medtwitter#AcademicTwitter
