"Based on a review of 5,967 Medicare pts, pts who received <5 home health care visits by a PT were associated with greater difficulty returning to activities of daily living." With TKAs being so common, this is exciting news for home health PT! #csulbdpt

"The strongest predictor of opioid consumption was the amount of opioids prescribed to a pt. A pt prescribed 100 pills could be expected to use ~40 more pills than a pt prescribed 20 pills" Basically, if you're prescribed it, you'll take it, so.. #csulbdpt

"The key point for pts is that large health benefits accrue from even small amounts of PA and that even short-duration activity lasting less than 10 minutes is beneficial." There's never an excuse not to move, even for a few minutes per day! #csulbdpt
@RThomson_SPT I always know when my pt. is feeling confident about his session when he's more talkative and laughing; times when he's quiet and straight-faced, I try to raise his spirits by making jokes and he'll smile more. I think little things like that go a long way! #dpt770#csulbdpt#RT
@TMarcoly_SPT When I was checking my pt's daily walking log I asked why his steps were low on some days - he said it's because he didn't like bad weather. Little did I know, Vietnamese people see overcast weather as a bad sign. Now that I know, I don't question it! #csulbdpt#TM#dpt770

"authors found evidence to support physical activity (PA) as a treatment for both schizophrenia and depression, particularly when supervised by an exercise professional such as a PT." Awesome evidence that shows the impact of PA on mental health! #csulbdpt

"authors found that physical activity decreased mortality rates for healthy, prefrail, and frail adults over age 60" Yet another study that shows the importance of exercise, especially in old age. #exerciseISmedicine#csulbdpt
@Kaz_SPT I think this definitely puts athletes at risk in CA. Not only would it be comparable to just letting some average Joe off the street take care of your athletes, it also undermines the hard work that certified ATs in other states put in to be able to treat safely. #dpt770#KN
@rachel_roesgen Although I definitely support athlete safety and ATs' care of on-field injuries, I think the lines may begin to blur in terms of their scope if they were allowed to treat "any active person in any setting." What would delineate ATs from PTs at that point? #dpt770#RR

"the study found that healthcare providers saved almost $2750 per patient when using telehealth instead of in-person PT." Although the study was focused on post-discharge PT, it's still an interesting thought- but is this good or bad for us PTs? #csulbdpt

I don't remember ever learning about this in neuro..
"he stimulates reflexes through a slapping motion. It doesn't mean it’s a cure; it’s more curative. It means they can feel better, and then we can start to work on strength, posture etc." #csulbdpt

Awesome to see that there are people out there who share their PT success stories with others. Buzzfeed is no major news outlet but I think it can help people see PT in a different light and think of us in the future! #csulbdpt#sorrymypostislate
Love this PT vs. opioids chart from @GetPT1st, when you really break it down, meds just cover up the pain rather than dealing with how to fix it, like PTs do. Also, the side effects of meds are scary whereas the "side effects" of PT is a better life! #csulbdpt

Take a look at this quick video showing how VR can possibly help patients in physical therapy. "When you learn a skill in a virtual environment, to what extent does that actually help you get better at that skill in real life?” Good question!

@Kaz_SPT@ReillyRetzSPT @rachel_roesgen Loving the analogies tonight, @Kaz_SPT! But... do you think insurance companies have patient care on their minds, or something more...
#dpt770
Since 2010, the ACA has given more Americans coverage to allow them to get PT. In that same time, reimbursements have fallen and more PT clinics have to take in more pts to keep their doors open. Since 2016 Trump has tried to get rid of the ACA, do PTs benefit if he wins? #dpt770
@JoeVitugSPT But are more PT job opportunities a good thing? With the supply and demand principle in mind, if there are more PT jobs, does that mean physical therapists might be valued less and therefore be paid accordingly? #dpt770
@ReillyRetzSPT@Kaz_SPT @rachel_roesgen It very well might. Since so much is done online nowadays it could be as simple as PT not in the list of "select your preventative care" option. Although direct access is an option for pts, out of pocket costs are a turn-off for many. Maybe the distinction is the issue! #dpt770
@britbryars_PT Poor execution seems to be the primary criticism of the ACA. Especially with PT, more patients but less time each patient doesn't really make sense, does it? How could it be better handled in the future? #dpt770
@Kaz_SPT @rachel_roesgen I couldn't agree more @Kaz_SPT, especially after @rachel_roesgen mentioned how the ACA emphasized prevention and wellness programs which benefitted PTs. Maybe just get rid of the spoiled stuff. #dpt770
