THISSSSSSS IS HOW WE DO ITTTTTT!
Happy Varina Day Blue Devils!!
For spooky season AP Lang students read a scary story, analyzed the rhetorical devices that gave a sense of FEAR, then created a movie which had the same effect on the viewer as the story had on the reader.
Just finished grading my 10th grade Urban Legends projects. Whew! These kids NAILED the project this year and turned in some incredible movies! I'm so impressed (and scared)! @CalderVHS @Firmin_Reads I need to go watch some Disney with my daughter. #THISisVarina#VHSOneFamily
Today we started my favorite 10th grade project- Urban Legends!! Students have to research an Urban Legend, decide the credibility and moral, then teach their class about it in movie form. Just in time for Halloween! 🎃
🔱 Attention @VHS_BlueDevils! We need you to step up next Friday! We are having a Spirit Friday competition against our rivals down the street. Clean, iron, and have your spirit wear ready for the 23rd!!! #VHSOneFamily
I can’t wait to see a springer in a VHS shirt!
Blue Devil Class of 2021 & Families - The Virtual Senior Convocation can be viewed tomorrow Oct. 16th beginning at 4pm @ https://t.co/kbVjWvt7Ca. Tag us @VHS_BlueDevils with #VHSOneFamily for your virtual watch parties.
I told my kids that English in the real world isn't always a "5 Paragraph Essay," so I sent them on a scavenger hunt to find examples of technical writing at home. My favorite was, "how much you're supposed to feed your hamster." @VHS_BlueDevils ROCK!🥰
Compared to Latin America, slaves in the United States were less likely to gain freedom. Frederick Douglass, born into slavery in Maryland, taught himself to read and write; then escaped to freedom. He used his narrative to promote abolition. Source: "Slavery In America"
Spotlight: Ms. Anderson's African American Lit class began the 3rd unit,“Transition & Sorrow.” They're using slave narratives to investigate the global impact of the African Diaspora throughout the US, Latin America, & the West Indies. @sojournal_truth @CalderVHS @VHS_BlueDevils
In 18th century there were uprisings. Slaves would sabotage their owners by breaking tools, faking sickness, and slowing labor production. Only 6% of African Americans survived slavery of the 10-16 million who arrived in America. Running away was a form of resistance.
The goal is to engage in formal communication to support their future collegiate self-advocacy skills. Stu are required to request a meeting during office hours to address specific academic questions & concerns. #goals#lifeready#EngIsLit
