The one thing about approaching education through an entrepreneurial lens - you don’t get to hang with kids all the time! Thanks @SpringsCS for hosting me today, and for asking me to share my journey with your students. #shareyourstory#journeyspeaker
@TeachForAmerica Did I miss anything, @sageinwondrland? And thanks for such a thoughtfully guided conversation. So excited for you and what lies ahead! Stay in touch!

Just had such an inspiring conversation with a soon-to-be college grad entering into @TeachForAmerica. She asked poignant & thoughtful questions, looking for advice for new/young teachers. Inspired me to share here:
@TeachForAmerica 5.) Network like crazy! Educators don't do this enough. It's so easy to get caught up in the day 2 day & get comfortable in a bubble. But that disconnects us from the world outside our schools. You never know where a connection can take you or the opportunity that could open up.
Yesterday I started a new & wonderful journey w/ @vistamagnet - for the next 4 mo we will be taking a deep dive into #restorativepractices & how it impacts school climate & staff culture. Feeling super grateful to be a support to this amazing team of dedicated educators. @VUSDHR
San Diego Unified, 2nd largest school district in CA, lower test scores & higher suspension rates (4x more likely) for black students - why aren't we talking about these issues at school staff meetings? @SanDiegoCOE @EMorrisonSmith

@SanDiegoCOE @EMorrisonSmith @KPBSnews@sdschools So I go to the "higher ups" to start a conversation. Next thing I know, they are placed on leave, effectively immediately. Obviously I don't know the whole story & obviously I am making assumptions. BUT...what I DO know: people are so afraid to even TALK about it. #stuckinarut
@SanDiegoCOE @EMorrisonSmith @KPBSnews And to be VERY clear - this is NOT just an issue in @sdschools. When I pitch to admin that I'm ready to facilitate dialogue with their staff around racial bias & how it shows up in the classroom, I'm passed off to the higher ups "who make those kinds of decisions."
Feeling super appreciative for time spent w/ Jerrid, host of @teaching_change podcast - even though he had to edit my potty mouth! I guess that’s what happens when you have REAL talk about education, burnout, and how race shows up in classrooms. https://t.co/xo1FgaPOkS
