@PostLeftWatch I think it's wrong to make baseless allegations. But TYT is doing the same thing. They're assuming on the basis of nothing at all, that Jenny Racicot is lying. There is ZERO evidence that she's a political pawn or that she is making these allegations up for political purposes.
@PostLeftWatch Look, Ana is correct in saying that false rape allegations shouldn't be normalized and can be dangerous. The problem is that she doesn't seem to offer any good reason for us to believe the allegations are false.
@ClippingWings I was never crazy about Platner either, but it isn't as if there are very many "brown and black" voices in Maine lol. I think people are reading too much into this. When you adopt an inclusive nominating strategy, every now and then you're going to let the good in with the bad.
@shannonrwatts There is more attention on El Sayed because he's running in a hotly contested primary against a popular incumbent. Juliana Stratton is the Senate nominee in a deep blue state. You haven't exactly been caping for her either. This newfound "support" seems tacked on.
@carolinekwan I didn't follow this case so I don't know much about it at all. But from what it seems her credibility took somewhat of a hit after the trial.
@PostLeftWatch There is zero evidence that Jenny Racicot was an "evil force". Absolutely none. I don't deny Platner had his detractors, but at this stage this is just slanderous.
@ijbailey Ana Kasparian didn't find the Platner allegations to be credible, but she was viciously attacked as a result. It's pretty clear that some in the Democratic establishment are quite selective when it comes to who is believed and who is not.
Yes, obviously. If the allegation were false, it could cost him his campaign, career, relationships, reputation, and leave him publicly associated with rape forever. “He didn’t go to jail” would not make that damage insignificant. That does not mean Racicot is lying or that her allegation should be dismissed. It means truth matters, and allegations this serious should be evaluated carefully rather than treated as consequence-free.
@Richard_Vixen Testimony, especially under oath, is indeed considered evidence. Denial is also, though. In a court, the battle is over which claims are better supported. At this time, it seems pretty clear Racicot's claims are better supported than Platner's denial.
@emilykmay Racicot herself explained why she didn't come forward until recently. A lot of it was because she agreed with many of Platner's political views and felt morally conflicted. It was also because she didn't want to be publicly known as a rape victim and feared retaliation.
@onlinetrashbag@AhsokaLveIntrst It isn't the story, but clearly it bothers you that that detail was included. And like I said, it bothers many of you because no longer is this story a clean cut hero vs. villain story. But this is reality, and reality hardly ever works that way. I actually believe her more now.
@onlinetrashbag@AhsokaLveIntrst It doesn't change the overall plot, but it adds an important detail to the story. The fact is, to me, this elevates Racicot's credibility because she was willing to include details like this. She seems very intelligent and honest, IMO.
