https://t.co/BtcO5WLllp Check this out, this is what happens with distracted driving! You don't want to be this person!

[Valdosta-Lowndes MPO @VLMPO]

Pedestrian crashes are a tragedy for the victim and the driver so don't let this happen to you! If you are a driver, please be on the lookout for pedestrians. If you are a pedestrian always use a marked crosswalk. 100% of all pedestrian crashes affect a loved one!

[Valdosta-Lowndes MPO @VLMPO]

Save lives with slower speeds! Check out this chart showing that at 40 MPH almost no pedestrian has a chance to live through a crash but take that back to 20 MPH and almost all pedestrians survive! Slow down, what is your hurry anyway - is it really that important?

[Valdosta-Lowndes MPO @VLMPO]

If a pedestrian is in a crosswalk and a vehicle comes along, the vehicle must yield to the pedestrian. Pedestrians please use crosswalks, they are the safest place to cross! Pedestrians do not step into a crosswalk if the vehicle can't yield safely!

New Year's Eve is upon us! Please celebrate responsibly and don't drive if you drink. Let's all have a happy, safe, and productive new Year! Your friends at Southern Georgia Regional Commission.

Thanksgiving is here and more people than ever will be traveling by car. The National Safety Council estimates that 518 people may die on U.S. roads this holiday. Drinking and driving is a major contributing factor to motor vehicle crashes so don't be a turkey and do it!

[Valdosta-Lowndes MPO @VLMPO]

Pedestrian deaths on the rise! The Governor's Hwy. Safety Admin. says that Georgia was 1 of 7 states that accounted for 54% of all pedestrian deaths in the US in 2020. 75% of the deaths occur after dark. Lets turn on the lights and be on the look out to save lives!

[Valdosta-Lowndes MPO @VLMPO]

To speed or not to speed - that is the question! Wouldn't it be better not to speed, be late to work, get chastised by your boss and get over it by the next day, than to speed, kill or paralyze another person, and never, ever, get over that the rest of your life!?

[Valdosta-Lowndes MPO @VLMPO]

Everyone in a crosswalk is somebody's mother, father, sister, brother or relative! In Georgia, all vehicles must STOP for pedestrians in the crosswalk. As a driver, keep your eyes up, and on the road, and the crosswalk - make eye contact with the pedestrian. Stay safe!

[Valdosta-Lowndes MPO @VLMPO]

In Georgia, bicycles are considered vehicles and motorized vehicles must treat bicyclists as vehicles. To pass a bicyclist, move to the available passing lane. If no passing lane is available, slow 10 mph below the posted limit and pass with a minimum of 3-feet.

What are complete streets and what are the benefits?
They are designed and operated to prioritize safety, comfort, and access to destinations for all people. Complete streets make it easy to cross the street, walk to shops, jobs, and schools.

What does a complete street look like?
In order to determine the most appropriate complete streets approach, first identify the characteristics and concerns of each potential user: bicyclists, pedestrians, transit riders, and other roadway users.

[Valdosta-Lowndes MPO @VLMPO]

Oftentimes, a road only needs a sidewalk or wide shoulder to accommodate the needs of pedestrian and bicyclists. What facilities will best “complete” a street dependent upon the surrounding land uses (downtown, commercial corridor, residential neighborhood, rural area).

In 2020, Valdosta completed an assessment of its pavement infrastructure. The VLMPO and @Southern Georgia Regional Commission used the assessment data to create a web-based mapping app w/past improvements & pavement condition to help them better plan for future paving projects.
