My father died thirty years ago today
He was 49, I was 14
Most charitably it can be chalked up to my immaturity at the time of his death but it’s taken the full three decades since then for me to realize that I am not “getting over it”
I am never getting over it
Your reminder that a city (like Toronto) that is willing to spend an extra $50,000,000 on policing but isn't willing to spend even a tiny percentage of that to prevent suffering & death for unhoused people...is not a compassionate city.
Our city must find its humanity again.
So Galen Weston of @loblawco would have you pay $70.00 to see a Doctor in direct contravention of the #CanadaHealthAct with his new Maple company. Conservatives are destroying our #Healthcare Call your MP and let them know what you think
The Ontario government is underspending on healthcare by $5 billion.
As a result, 66% of Ontario's home care agencies are being forced to cut services & 22% say their wait lists will increase. In total, 874,975 hours of care won’t be delivered to patients.
Isn't this horrific?
Did you know about @KidsHelpPhone? They are a confidential and anonymous 24/7 helpline for young people, providing support for mental health, relationships, and any other issue they may be facing. #KidsHelpPhone#MentalHealth#BellLetsTalk

It's #BellLetsTalk day so let's talk about how Bell won't provide satellite internet or phone service to remote indigenous communities, or how Bell's own staff don't have access to mental health benefits!
Who else agrees that a single day sponsored by a corporation…is not a substitute for the free & equitable access to #mentalhealth care services that our governments should be providing for us every day? ✋🏽
If we want to radically improve #mentalhealth, let’s give people housing. End poverty. Promote food security. Be anti-racist. Fund harm reduction. Offer workers paid sick days. Provide equitable healthcare (and mental healthcare) to all…After all, equity IS mental health. 🙏🏽
One of the best things you can do for your mental health is to refrain from comparing yourself with others. We each have our own unique set of experiences & challenges. It’s not a level playing field. Be proud of the goals you’ve achieved & for coming this far
My first job upon arrival in the UK was a janitor. I’d say good morning & not receive a response. Today I’m an NHS psychiatrist & I said good morning to my colleague cleaning floors. The smile on his face was priceless. We each play an important role & must be respectful.
Caring for our patients comes with emotional consiquences that we too often ignore.
- self sacrifice
- identification
- grief
- guilt
- trauma
It's time to talk about this

Ways to value your colleagues:
1. greet them by name
2. take interest
3. play to their strengths
4. offer opportunities that will help them develop
5. thank them
6. praise effort
7. appreciate the challenges they face
We all need to feel that we belong.
On Monday night the world watched 24-year-old Damar Hamlin collapse to the ground in Cardiac Arrest on the football field.
His life was saved because he got immediate CPR and defibrillation.
This can happen to literally anyone, anytime, anywhere.
Life is precious. Learn CPR.
While NPs do not replace MDs, we could absolutely be better utilized as primary care providers: One in six family doctors are near retirement age, leaving millions of Canadians in health care limbo /via @globeandmail https://t.co/2ng2oQFTz9
Going to say this again: Policing addresses crime after it happens, it doesn’t prevent it. If we want to prevent crime AND build more compassionate communities, we need to invest in housing, mental health, education & healthcare.
Invest more in our communities. Not policing.
Many people are taking this seriously, so let me reassure you that the electronic medical record system, EPIC, does not have a social media network, and I apologize for any potential future harm I have caused in speaking such an atrocity into existence.
