@HoffmanLabs i feel like Murphy was just trying to tell people "deploying stuff that allows Mistakes to happen will guarantee that those Mistakes will, somewhere, sometime, actually occur" and wound up with all this weird religion attached to his name
@VMSSoftware I gotta be honest, "you agree to provide reasonable participation in the online Software community forums" is one of the most patently ludicrous license terms I've yet encountered.
@HoffmanLabs Unrelated, but it reminds me of how "the greatest thing since sliced bread", as a phrase, passed from a generation who saw it invented, to a generation who thought it had always existed, with its meaning more or less intact.
@HoffmanLabs I've always thought the inefficiency was the worst problem with them, tbh. Fraud is bad, but it doesn't tend to contribute to droughts and wildfires...
@bogglesnatch even if stuff like that was available though, it'd be hard to use these days because of how irretrievable overloaded "terminal emulator" is as a term.
MESS has a semi-working VT220 emulator, at least.
I remember there being a lot of games and cool fun stuff for OpenVMS back in the day. It's too bad it was all labeled "DIGITAL INTERNAL USE ONLY" -- it might've been helpful for VMS's cultural relevance otherwise.
It's too bad Kyoko didn't have a name three words long. With a proper TLA it could've gotten an SPD and then DEC could've sold PAKs for five thousand bucks a pop.
@HoffmanLabs i used to know a VAXmate. it had, installed on it, MS-DOS 3, MS Windows 1, and the Form virus. (I suspect Form's keyclick activation didn't work properly on the VAXmate.)
