For shameless self-promotion Sunday, I’ll say a few words about my book Rogue Revolutionaries & why you might want to read it #GoRogueOrGoHome#twitterstorians Hang on to your hats
First, the cover is wonderful 1/17
Just out: #Review of @VMongey's "Rogue Revolutionaries" and @jmulich's "In a Sea of Empires," two groundbreaking books on mobility and connections in the revolutionary-era Caribbean. ➡️https://t.co/MKken9knL1
In "A Commercial (Neo)Colony?," @profmarylewis explores the role of the French merchant class in shaping France's decision to recognize Haiti's independence. https://t.co/D7hQYQMk4s
#BELIZE: Belize has become the latest #Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country to signal its intention to replace Britain's Queen Elizabeth as its head of state and adopt republican status.
In a convo abt pancake day, one of my coworkers gleefully announced that they made "pancake enchiladas"
I have many questions and yet little desire to have answers
The 11 years on fixed term contracts have been HELL. At various points, I've been starving, homeless, at risk of deportation, bullied, harassed, and on the verge of break down. Casualisation is destructive and in no way inevitable!

Had to go to office today to get my laptop fixed. Granted I just returned from France where masks are mandatory indoors but why isn't anyone wearing a mask in England? Maybe 5% on the metro. No one in my office.
I can't believe I changed into non-elastic waist clothes for this
Non-TT, precarious and unaffiliated colleagues produce amazing research all the time. Today we celebrate @VMongey and her work with historical #refugeecrisis in Belize.
LISTEN: On @CIMSEC's podcast Sea Control, Penn Press authors @VMongey (ROGUE REVOLUTIONARIES) and @tysonfreeder (SMUGGERS, PIRATES, AND PATRIOTS) discuss their books and the role the maritime space played in the "Age of Revolutions" https://t.co/5XgHcK0YVe
On the topic, I really liked Claire Zalc's 'Dénaturalisés: retraits de nationalité sous Vichy' on how the gvt's exclusionary measures were imagined & implemented, esp for those affected, including Gainsbourg, Derrida, Chagall or Perec
When I see how the govt is proposing that people can have their British nationality taken away from them, it reminds me of how Vichy France 'denaturalised' Jews who naturalised after 1927.
Now online: Ep 9 with Radhika Mongia (EN) 🔥 On the development of border technologies in colonial contexts, and the crucial role race and racisms played in shaping the passport inequality we know today. There is nothing natural about borders!
