The VPD’s newest state-of-the-art vessel was officially christened today. The R.G. McBeath, a custom-designed 45-foot Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB), will strengthen the Marine Unit’s ability to keep Vancouver’s waterways safe.
The vessel honours fallen VPD officer R.G. McBeath, who was killed in the line of duty in 1922.
This important addition to the #VPD fleet was made possible by the generosity of the @VanPoliceFnd.
Watching the fireworks from the water tonight? All vessel operators must keep clear of the exclusion zone, even when transiting through the area. Watch your speed and your wake so everyone can enjoy the show safely. @VancouverPD@PortVancouver

Will you be out on the water for the fireworks tonight? You'll be joining hundreds of boats and other watercraft -- all competing for limited space. People using non-motorized watercraft, such as paddleboards and kayaks, have an assigned holding area for their safety.
@VPDMarineUnit will be checking for proper safety equipment and measures, such as PFDs, lights, sobriety, number of passengers, and operator certifications.

Yesterday, four students were fortunate to experience a ride on a police boat that included a tour of False Creek with the VPD Marine Unit, along with their School Liaison Officer.

This pod of #killerwhales surfaced in #Vancouver Harbour less than 400m from our vessel, so we idled the engines, turned off the echo sounder and enjoyed the show. @VancouverPD@VPDRecruiting @ChiefPalmer Join Us!

#VPD civilian staff and sworn officers generously donate to the Vancouver Police Community Fund throughout the year. Together with the @VanPoliceFnd, we were able to purchase over $10,000 in presents to support tomorrow’s Christmas Wish Breakfast at the Pan Pacific.
Today we assisted @MarMamRescue with the release of harbour seals “Starlight Reefs” and “Silver Surfer”. They were rescued and rehabilitated for over 2 months by @vanaqua staff and volunteers. They’re now healthy enough to go back to the wild. No hesitations here! @VancouverPD
#NDPW2023 Stay sober in, on, and around the water. Alcohol consumption is a factor in many water related fatalities.
Alcohol and drug use impair balance, judgement and reflexes. #BoatSober#DrowningIsPreventable@VancouverPD
#NDPW2023 Swimming skills need to be taught; they are not innate. No matter your age, it’s never too late to #LearnToSwim.
Contact your local pool or recreation centre for swimming lessons offered in your community for all ages and abilities. @ParkBoard@RLSSCanada
#NDPW2023 Can you survive an accidental or unintentional fall into deep water?
Most drownings occur close to safety where self-rescue is possible. That’s why learning to swim is an important first step to #DrowningPrevention@VancouverPD
