I had never thought about differentiating homework in this way before. Using student self-assessment and empowering their voices to determine what THEY need from work done inside and outside of class time.
Let's put away the completion clipboard for good, and instead, differentiate our feedback on homework based on student self-assessment using the following criteria:
1. I need more challenge.
2. I need more practice.
3. I need help.
Learning > Completion.
UDL is a part of our lesson planning for all students, based on predictable variation. Differentiation is added after lessons are designed to meet the needs of individual students. They work in concert, but the foundation is #UDL. #LeadInclusion#EdChat#Inclusion

If you're a high school math teacher starting classes this week, take the time to build that classroom community of math thinkers & learners.
In classes of 30+ students, it's not feasible for you to be the sole source of knowledge. The community will provide, if you nurture it.
@SkatingLesson Both of my girls skate and love being at the rink. They are surrounded by coaches that I know care for them as a whole person and not just a skater. To add-you do not need to home school any competitive athlete. Public schools will find ways to support school and sport.
