I generally like @RepThomasMassie as much as I will allow myself to like a politician.
There are only two possibilities.
1.) He knows the names: He has been and is currently protecting them
2.) He doesn’t know the names: He is lying
Neither is good.
Many of you know that I am a hobby Beekeeper. I have 10 colonies, nothing crazy., I think this is year 5. I got a new suit this year; a really nice one. Apparently it comes with new rules because I got stung in the face 5 times today. I might look a little funny on video.
I rewatched Chernobyl. This time around I focused less on the presentation & history and more on the story elements. I really
like the attention to detail on making the Soviet Union look like the disparate shithole it was in reality. A county that couldn’t break 70 years without collapse because of flawed ideology that worships the government.
The directors chose to represent a bunch of minor persons that influenced the course of events by creating a single character- a physicist named Konyuk. As a story telling mechanism it was brilliant for attenuating the story, but the cracks show in episode 4. Legasov doesn’t want to get merc’d by the KGB for revealing classified information. He states that he has already drastically shortened his life by effectuating the cleanup and that he has given enough. Konyuk (again fictional character) throws a fit because she spent a lot of time investigating to figure out what happened. All of her effort will be wasted. He replies, literally, “they will shoot me”. She says she would do it if it were her chance. Again this is fictional, but she testifies right before him. She has that opportunity in the story as presented, but he is the one that has to sacrifice everything because she chickens out. He ultimately goes through with it. His life is over, he loses everything, and he is suffering from term radiation symptoms. All the while-he protects her from the KGB. He eventually takes his own life. She never once thanks him or even praises him for doing the right thing.
Leave it to the directors to create an abjectly insufferable female protagonist and insert her into the story, just to mark some boxes.
A guy told me today that “Iran has fought the US Navy to a stalemate”.🤨 If by “stalemate” you mean NO US Navy ships lost and 90% of the Iranian navy on its way to becoming a coral reef- Yes, stalemate. Basically, Op Epic Fury ran out of targets, and took the break to reload.
