🔴 BREAKING: Deputy commander of Iran’s joint military command says that Israeli “crimes” in Lebanon will not go unanswered, Reuters reports citing state media.
‼️🚨Breaking News (confirmed)
Anni has just won MDP Chairperson election. This is the biggest political comeback since the founding of modern Maldives and its first Constitution in 1932.
Congratulations to Anni and Fayya on their victory. Ordinary MDP members just endorsed your Bodu Badhalu manifesto. Now you have the mandate to make it the official party policy.
Anni co founded MDP in exile in Sri Lanka on 10 November 2004, when political parties were still banned under the authoritarian Maumoon’s regime. He returned to Maldives on 30 April 2005, defying threats and arrests, to build the party on home soil. MDP was officially registered in June 2005 and on 20 December 2005 Anni was elected as its very first Chairperson.
Under his leadership, MDP united reformers and became the driving force that ended 30 years of authoritarian rule. He guided the party through arrests, protests and turbulent times and in 2008 led us to victory in Maldives’ first democratic presidential election, delivering the country’s first democratically elected president on 11 November 2008.
Today, on 12 June 2026, MDP members have spoken clearly once again. Anni’s return as Chairperson is a powerful new chapter for our party. His courage, vision, integrity and lifelong commitment to democracy and reform will help rebuild and strengthen MDP at this critical moment.
Thank you to every member who voted and participated. Now let’s come together in unity, respect the democratic result and focus on the bigger fight ahead for a stronger, principled MDP that puts the Maldives and its people first in 2028.
Also, sincere thanks to @MickailNaseem for running a strong and competitive campaign that contributed to a vibrant democratic contest within MDP. His commitment, ideas and engagement throughout the election helped strengthen the party and demonstrated the value of healthy internal democracy.
Thank you all. @MMuizzu should be worried.
