Inside the May Issue: Beyond Moore's Law, Non-Destructive Profiling, and Better Bio-Coatings

Characterization Feature: Traditional XPS probes just 5–10 nm into a surface, and destructive depth profiling damages the sample. This article describes a new three-color X-ray source approach — combining Al Kα, and higher-energy HAXPES sources — that allows parallel, non-destructive depth profiling at multiple information depths simultaneously, without touching the sample.
