Our mission is to serve Vermonters by administering our tax laws fairly and efficiently to help taxpayers understand and comply with their state tax obligations
It may not be the most romantic part of your newlywed life, but reviewing your filing status and withholding, as well as updating your name and address if those have changed, will make your first filing season together go smoothly!
When are food and drinks taxed as a meal? Is my catering business considered a restaurant for tax purposes? How do I report tips and service charges? Get answers to these questions & more in the new VT Tax Guide for Restaurants and Foodservice businesses! https://t.co/3dLuIUJJxD
Now that the bill is signed, it's time for us to get to work! We'll be back at the end of the year with all the details Vermonters need to claim these credits and exemptions next filing season!
Yesterday, June 25, Governor Phil Scott signed S.51, a bill that creates and expands existing tax breaks for Vermont families, workers, veterans, and seniors.
In addition, by providing a new tax credit for income-eligible Vermont veterans and creating a tax exemption for military retirement and survivorship benefits, the package honors those who served and brings Vermont more in line with other states.
If you own a #Vermont#catering business, costs for the meal, labor, and other taxable components are all subject to the Meals Tax even when itemized. Learn more about this and other tax guidance specifically for foodservice businesses in our new guide! https://t.co/3dLuIUJJxD
Save your receipts! If you work outside the home, keep a list of the names, payment amounts, and EINs of your kids' summer camps, as these costs may be eligible towards your Child and Dependent Care Credit when you file next year.
Did you know that single bakery items are taxable meals, but if you buy 3 or more of the same type of baked good, they are considered groceries and therefore exempt? A great excuse to buy a dozen and share with your friends on National Donut Day! #sweetdeal#donutday#taxfacts

By using the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator, you can find the right amount of federal taxes to withhold and avoid surprises when you file next year! More info: https://t.co/o2azEQEe5k
Withholding tax is an estimate of the tax you owe. If too much tax is withheld, you'll get a refund, but you won't have as much in your paycheck. If not enough is withheld, you'll owe tax when you file.
