Col Anurag Upadhyay scored in the 99th percentile in CAT. He could have chosen a corporate career. He chose the Indian Army instead.
He volunteered for the Special Forces, completed probation with 3 PARA (SF), and joined the raising team of 12 PARA (SF). Even after a heart attack in 2008, he returned to active duty.
In August 2025, he suffered a severe posterior circulation stroke. Today, he has Locked-in Syndrome. His body has been severely affected. His mind has not.
He is conscious and aware. He remembers. He thinks. Through eye movements and alphabet-based scanning, he communicates his thoughts. Further complications resulted in bilateral below-knee amputations.
This post is not asking for sympathy. It is asking for possibility.
His family knows what the medical literature says. They are not asking for promises. They believe no credible possibility should remain unexplored because the right expert was outside their network.
They seek connections to:
• Neurologists and neuro-rehabilitation specialists experienced in Locked-in Syndrome
• Rehabilitation centres focused on neurological recovery
• Researchers exploring recovery of movement, speech or other functions
• Research and emerging technologies, including brain-computer interfaces
• Eye-tracking and assistive technology that could give Anurag a more independent voice
• Veteran organisations or individuals who can open the right doors
Someone reading this may know a doctor who has treated a similar patient, a rehabilitation team that has seen a different outcome, a relevant researcher—or someone who can make the right introduction.

His prognosis should be determined by medicine and how his body responds—not by a lack of information, access or connections.

India's decision not to suspend or withdraw from the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), but instead to keep it "in abeyance" (a term neither defined by New Delhi nor recognized in international law) has returned to the spotlight following an arbitral tribunal's ruling. The tribunal held that "India's decision on 'abeyance' of the Treaty was not permissible under the Treaty or other applicable rules of international law."

The question is why New Delhi chose not to invoke the recognized doctrines of international law governing treaty suspension or withdrawal, but instead adopted the legally undefined formulation of placing the IWT "in abeyance," creating ambiguity about its practical effect and its permanence.

The novel formulation may ultimately reflect India's deeply ingrained bureaucratic culture, where administratively crafted ambiguity can come at the expense of legal clarity.

Maj Walia laid down his life after neutralising 4 terrorists #OnThisDay 29 August in 1999 at Kupwara, J&K

On 29 August 1999, at 0830 hours, Maj Walia led a squad of five men into the dense undergrowth in Haphruda forest in Kupwara Distt, J&K. Soon he heard voices of militants but was unable to see them.

He along with his buddy crawled uphill and on reaching a knoll, observed two armed militants barely four meters ahead, and a large covered hideout in a depression 15 meters below.

Maj Walia immediately fired killing the closest sentry and charged at the second who jumped back towards the hideout. Without hesitation, he charged at the hideout with only his buddy giving him covering fire. The militants rushed out in an attempt to flee

Maj Walia single-handedly grappled with them and firing from a distance of two meters, killed four militants. In this action, he was, however, hit on his face, chest and arm and fell down bleeding profusely at the entrance to the hideout

Maj Walia was subsequently evacuated but succumbed to his injuries.

For his exemplary leadership, unparalleled courage beyond the call of duty, conspicuous gallantry under fire Maj Sudhir Walia was awarded the #AshokaChakra posthumously

Major Sudhir Walia's father veteran Subedar Rulia Ram Walia received the posthumous #AshokaChakra on his son's behalf.

Pakistan threatened Lord’s Test boycott after broadcaster Sky Sports telecast interview with Imran Khan’s two sons which was actually recorded at the Lord’s Long Room a day before the Test. PCB wanted SKY not to air the interview during Lunch break else they wouldn’t take the field post Lunch.
