HB1333 is about protecting the health of the firefighters who protect us. A 42-hour workweek helps reduce fatigue, improve wellness, and strengthen recruitment and retention.

Sometimes that means being able to explain what they’re feeling clearly. Sometimes it means support that reflects their experiences and how they communicate. It’s about making sure help actually works.

Organizations committed to this work joined me as Governor Abigail Spanberger signed HB1113, helping ensure schools have the guidance to deliver mental health support students can understand and connect with across language, background, and experience.
Because when students can communicate and connect, they’re far more likely to get the help they need.

​$954,992 Secured for Western Tidewater Regional Jail (Suffolk, VA): Funding a complete security system replacement—upgrading cameras, access controls, and monitoring to maximize safety for both staff and inmates. 🔒🏢

​$1 Million Secured for Virginia State University Agriculture (Petersburg, VA): Investing directly in our small farmers and agricultural research by supporting Cooperative Extension Services like the one in Suffolk and the Small Farm Outreach Program. 🌾🚜

As wildfires continue up North make sure to check out the DEQ's air quality forecast while you're making plans through the weekend. Roanoke currently is experiencing code orange air quality, which is unhealthy for sensitive groups. Some areas of Virginia are now experiencing code purple air quality, which is unhealthy for everyone.

Virginians, you may notice some haze in the air today because of wildfire smoke from Canada. The air quality in certain parts of Virginia could impact some with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children. Experts at the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality urge at-risk people to avoid prolonged or heavy exertion outside.

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires has prompted a Code Red Air Quality Alert across Loudoun County today, with some areas under Code Purple.

Air quality is unhealthy for everyone, please limit your time outdoors, monitor local updates and take steps to protect your health.
