Okay, let’s look at Valverde’s goal against Inter Milan.

I understand people saying Real Madrid won by luck, but what exactly is luck when you execute a game plan?

If you look at the positioning before that goal, you can clearly see that it was well thought out and well rehearsed.

Look at the pressing.

This is not the Barcelona type of pressing or the PSG style of gegenpressing. This is the Mourinho type of pressing. The idea is not just to swarm the opponent, but to cut their passing options and force them into mistakes.

Look at Valverde, Vinicius and Brahim. Every player had someone they were covering. The goalkeeper was running out of options, and that was when Valverde applied the heavy press.

We’ve seen this before against Real Sociedad. Mbappé makes that pretend press, Valverde follows with the heavy press, while the other players cut the passing options.

That is the structure.

Inter had more midfield numbers, so the game was never about dominating possession. Madrid knew they could hurt Inter with pace, energy and intensity.

And that is exactly what Valverde and Jude Bellingham gave us.

So when I look at that goal, I don’t see luck.

I see a coordinated press, a clear structure and a goal that was rehearsed on the training ground.

This is the Mourinho influence I want Madrid fans to start paying attention to.

• He wasn’t even nominated for the Ballon d’Or despite winning the league and the World Cup. 💀

We've seen Álvaro Carreras start the season very well, and his performances have been impressive since pre season, especially in our last game against Espanyol.

But I also want to see Marc Cucurella start.

Let's give Cucurella a chance and see how our width and fullback structure looks with him.

Carreras gives you pace and attacking intensity.

Cucurella gives you more defensive solidity.

Carreras has also been very helpful in our build up play. If you look at José Mourinho's structure, sometimes we build through Dean Huysen, Carreras and Federico Valverde, or Dean Huysen, Carreras and Bernardo Silva.

That becomes one of our main outlets for progressing the ball.

So I want to see what the shape looks like with Dean Huysen, Marc Cucurella and either Federico Valverde or Bernardo Silva in that build up.

It would be interesting to see the difference.

Rivals love to say La Fabrica isn't producing enough talent, just because Real Madrid decided to generate income from their academy instead of giving them a chance to shine at the Bernabeu. 🙌
