A Tremendous Loss of A Great Friend !

At a global conservation conference in Kigali, Rwanda, in 2018 I first met Dr. Carmen Nibigira, a visionary in sustainable tourism and community empowerment. Her keynote on transforming tourism into a force for good resonated deeply with me, and we quickly bonded over shared values of family, community, and sustainability. Inspired by her insights, I invited her to the UAE to experience our culture, environment, and leadership programs.

The following day, I was honored by the Rwandan government to name a baby gorilla during the Kwita Izina ceremony, symbolizing the bond between humanity and nature. Carmen’s admiration for Rwanda’s conservation efforts reflected her own lifelong commitment to sustainability.

During her visit to the UAE, Carmen joined my A Day with the Green Sheikh program, sharing her expertise with international students. Her wisdom and passion inspired everyone, leaving an indelible impact.

Yesterday, we lost a dear friend and game-changer. Carmen’s passing is a tremendous loss, but her legacy of compassion, vision, and dedication to a sustainable world will live on. Rest in peace, Carmen—you will always be remembered.
