🚨No body. No jury. And the man facing the death penalty is his own lawyer.

That is how extraordinary this Florida murder trial has become.

Dr. Tomasz Kosowski was an Ivy League-educated plastic surgeon.

Steven Cozzi was the 41-year-old attorney representing people Kosowski had sued in a bitter dispute with his former employer.

Then, on March 21, 2023, Cozzi went to the restroom at his law office in Largo, Florida and never came back.

His phone, wallet, keys and vehicle were still there.

His body has never been found.

Prosecutors say Kosowski ambushed Cozzi inside that restroom, killed him and removed his body from the building in a cart before eventually disposing of it in a remote dumpster.

Investigators later found what prosecutors describe as a trail of evidence including blood, surveillance footage, phone-location data and items recovered from Kosowski’s vehicles. A cadaver dog later alerted on the dumpster investigators believe was used.

Kosowski pleaded NOT GUILTY.

And then this case became even more extraordinary.

He dismissed his attorneys.

He chose to represent HIMSELF in a case where prosecutors are seeking his death.

Then he waived a jury.

So for the past 6 days, this plastic surgeon has been sitting in court cross-examining witnesses and challenging the prosecution’s evidence himself with 1 judge ultimately deciding whether he is guilty or not guilty.

Yesterday, prosecutors rested after calling 56 witnesses.

Today, September 23, closing arguments begin.

No body.

No jury.

No defense attorney standing beside him.

Just a defendant representing himself in a death-penalty murder trial and 1 judge who will decide the verdict.

India has a GDP of around $4.5 trillion and is growing at 7.8%.

Switzerland has a GDP of around $1.15 trillion and is growing at just 1.5%.

If GDP size and growth alone determined people’s prosperity, people should be moving from Switzerland to India in search of a better life.

But ask an ordinary person which quality of life they would choose, and you quickly understand why GDP, while important, is a poor proxy for how people actually live. Growth matters, but what matters far more is whether it translates into better jobs, higher incomes, and a better quality of life.
