Voyager 1 reaches one light-day from Earth on November 18, 2026, at about 5:16 a.m. EST (2:16 a.m. PST / 10:16 UTC).
That’s ~16.1 billion miles (25.9 billion km)—the distance light travels in 24 hours. From that point a command from Earth takes a full day to arrive, and the reply takes another day. No human-made object has been that far. Voyager 1 has been traveling since September 5, 1977.
My next-door neighbor had dog like this named Molly. I absolutely loved that dog. When she barked, she meant it. When she really barked, and knew my neighbor was gone, I called the police, but I told them that I know this dog. She only barks when there’s a credible threat. After the police left, Molly was quiet. I think these Australian Shepherds are the smartest dogs along with German Shepherds.
I asked Grok to cite examples of cities which have defunded the police. Here was the answer:
“Cities including Austin, Minneapolis, Portland and LA redirected or cut police funds in 2020. Homicides rose sharply in 2020-21 in several of those places amid staffing drops. Most later restored or increased budgets; crime has since fallen in many. Analyses differ on causes, with some linking activity levels to outcomes and others citing broader factors or community programs. Camden’s earlier rebuild increased officers at lower cost and saw declines.”
@grok Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman, a leading candidate for mayor of Los Angeles, wants to defund the police. What are your thoughts, and where has it been done and what was the outcome?
