NCDMB Rewards Engineering Excellence with ₦50 Million Grand Prize at Nigerian Engineering Olympiad

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has reaffirmed its commitment to developing indigenous engineering capacity by rewarding outstanding innovation at the maiden Nigerian Engineering Olympiad held in Lagos.

🏆 Team Mavericks of Modibbo Adama University, Yola emerged as overall winners with their Sarafa Community Security Alert innovation; a community-based rapid alert system designed to improve emergency response during security incidents. The team received a ₦50 million cash prize, while their Faculty of Engineering will benefit from a new Centre of Excellence Building sponsored by NCDMB.

Other winners included:
🥈 Team Aurora, University of Ibadan – ₦30 million plus engineering equipment worth ₦75 million.
🥉 Team Fortizo, University of Jos – ₦20 million plus engineering equipment worth ₦50 million.
🏅 Team Flameless, University of Nigeria, Nsukka – ₦10 million for an innovative flare-gas-to-electricity solution.

The Olympiad attracted 375 applications from 984 students across 80 tertiary institutions nationwide and showcased innovative solutions addressing challenges in security, healthcare, agriculture, energy, and industrial development.

Speaking at the event, NCDMB reiterated that youth development, innovation, and entrepreneurship remain strategic priorities as the Board continues investing in programmes that build human capacity and strengthen Nigeria’s industrial future.

Congratulations to all participating teams for demonstrating the incredible ingenuity and potential of Nigerian youths.

@HabuSadeik There could be bias, I believe. Almost every school, no matter how unpopular has fine students/graduates. The bias could be during shortlisting for assessment.
