2 new briefs use #HCCIdata and #TMSIS to compare utilization and payments on childbirth in 2020.

🔹Avg ESI payment for childbirth was > the avg FFS Medicaid payment in all states we compared.
🔹Nationally, 34% of births w/ ESI and 31% of births w/ Medicaid were by c-section.

Even with insurance, birthing people paid $2000 out-of-pocket on average for childbirth in 2020. OOP spending varied widely even within local areas.

Birthing people spent less time in the hospital for childbirth in the first year of the pandemic. In April 2020, length of stay was 11% lower for c-sections and 6% lower for vaginal deliveries than April 2019.
