Gabriel on his penalty miss in the Champions League final: "If we have another penalty I am going to be there to take it. Of course I was sad, but I have learned from this. If I have another opportunity, I am ready to take it."
Why can’t people just say Saka had a bad game/performance and move on. It’s always ‘he’s washed’ or ‘the team has outgrown him’ or ‘we need to sell him’. Like why can’t yall ever be normal about him?
This is honestly what annoys me about some of you, you people will ignore the real issues affecting ordinary Yoruba people and then pick the lowest hanging fruit in governance and turn it into some big intellectual debate about preserving Yoruba language and culture.
The lady didn’t go there to ask about education, didn’t go there to ask about the state of the city, the dirty environment, the touts, the terrible public spaces, the quality of governance, or what will be done to actually improve the lives of ordinary people he wants to govern. She went there to ask about preserving Yoruba.
I want to understand something, is your satisfaction in life supposed to come from the fact that you can speak Yoruba? What exactly is so special about speaking a language if your life is still miserable, you don’t have good education, you don’t have opportunities, you can’t find decent work, and the environment you live in is falling apart?
I’m asking, what is the point? If the government is making all this money but not using it to actually improve your life, cultism, thugs and street boys are taking over the city, education and intellectualism are dying, and nothing meaningful seems to be changing, these are the things you should probably spend more of your time be talking about.
Yoruba language is not dying, it is not going anywhere, why creating unnecessary distractions around it? And this sneaking in “no man’s land” thing, from where to where? Who is even talking about that? Where is that coming from?
There are so many serious issues affecting Lagos, and if everybody puts their energy together and keep bombarding the government with these issues, maybe the conversation can actually move somewhere, instead of constantly picking these silly low hanging fruits and turning them into major cultural battles.
You’re in the UK, you see the quality of life people have there, you see how systems work, you see what functional governance can do for people, these are the things you should be talking about.
Leave the distractions and focus on the things that will actually improve the lives of Yoruba people.
Culture matters, language matters, identity matters, absolutely, but they are not substitutes for a good life.
