I received the Bodhivriksh award at the Spurtidhama Foundation, Bengaluru on 14th April. While I am quite vary of awards, this one was something special, where Ambedkar, the Buddha, and tested social activism of years met.
In my new book, on Ambedkar's Political Philosophy, I examine the key concepts that Ambedkar used to envision a new framework of public life that would overcome the problems of marginality, degradation, and domination.

@JhaPHerstories@bhupro@BbauSocialmedia@Lucknowunivpost@OUPAcademic I had a wonderful time speaking on my book and defending its argument in BHU, Lucknow University, BBBAY and AMU. Priyanka Jha, Sikha Chauhan, Sartik Baug and Parvez Alam were great hosts and discussants. I am still pondering over some of the intricate questions raised there.
Basavakalyan is replete with ‘gavi’ or caves where the Sharanas retreated to reflect and meditate. Their literary output, called Vachanasahitya, has been the mainstay of Kannada literary creativity and the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community has been primarily its offshoot
Visited Basavakalyan, where Basaveshvara with hundreds of Sharanas, threw up a mode of thinking and being in 12th century known as ‘Kalyana Kranti’.In an assemblage termed Anubhav Mantap, they deliberated on spiritual, political and personal concerns and self-evaluated themselves
@Desh2908Pramod Hello Pramod,
I am using a specific formulation, 'all available writings in Marathi as well as in English' (p.31). I am wondering whether it lends to your take on it!
@Desh2908Pramod I did not claim in my book that Ashok Gopal covers the whole of the Marathi writings of Babasaheb Ambedkar as well as the entire corpus of writings of and on him. However, I feel that it is the best intellectual history that we have on Babasaheb Ambedkar so far.
@PluralistPulse @Christo_Sena Why not persuade the Catholic Church to conduct a caste survey of its members? The data could be employed to make persuasive arguments before official bodies.
@PluralistPulse @Christo_Sena Why not persuade Catholic Church in India (including all rites-Latin, Syro-Malabar, Syro-Malankar) to conduct a caste census of its members, including their socio-economic conditions? It will be helpful to further the mandate of the Ranganath Misra Commission.
@PluralistPulse The Catholic Church in India pools together massive data with regard to its following. But officially Dalit/SC category rarely figures in this endeavour. However, rough estimates can be arrived at by focussing on the regions.
I'm happy to share that my new book, 'Ambedkar's Political Philosophy: A Grammar of Public Life from the Social Margins', is now out with Oxford University Press.
