Views of Valpo’s Pro Geo group during our Beyond the Falls cave exploration! Unfortunately, I couldn’t get shots of everyone as we went along, but they were great! @ Marengo Cave https://t.co/II27NsYHKK
Valpo’s ProGeo field group up on the Baraboo Syncline. Despite being tired and often, they were a great field group! @ Devil's Lake State Park https://t.co/JxFHgv2pIV
Geography is looking at the effect of place, how WHERE something is can influence WHAT it is or will be. Couldn’t agree more with this article!

This is sad news. Fieldwork can always be dangerous but especially during periods when the landscape is adjusting to new conditions. https://t.co/5oX0BszNRC
Soil Pit 2 in progress!
Can’t tell what’s going on? Neither can we yet. The landscape picture is still loading 😀
Currently digging through a VERY dense subsurface horizon. Anyone think they know what can cause increased density to develop in a subsurface horizon?
Did you know wetlands help reduce flooding, purify water, store carbon, and are some of the most diverse ecosystems on Earth? Wetlands are part of every geomorphology course we offer! #soilsaturdays

Did you know that soils store more carbon than all vegetation AND the atmosphere combined? They’re the second largest carbon sink on why planet (oceans are #1). What happens when things burn? They store more!

Over snow and ready for summer? Many rivers and ecosystems depend on spring snow melt. Decreased snowfall can mean drier landscapes and rivers, less water for our cities, and less power from hydroelectric dams.

It's internship application season! Looking for a great opportunity for this summer? Check out the GeoCorps (app. deadling 1/13) and Geoscientist-in-the-Parks (2/02) openings.

There is a strong connection between humans and the environment that can often get lost in the bustle of everyday life. This is a great story showing the devastating connection between 6th Century civilizations and the Ilopango volcanic eruption. https://t.co/M9pJZRNKEt
Ice dynamics are a fascinating topic! Glaciers slide faster if they're flowing over till/mud, but this study has found fast flow even over "hard" beds (i.e. bedrock)! The faster the ice flows, the faster it will melt, and the faster sea level will rise. Fascinating stuff!
Flowing liquid water, under flowing solid ice, being influenced by rock, channel form, and sinuosity. How cool!
Anyone able to say what landform that sub-glacial stream would leave behind if the glacier melted away?

Get out and explore this summer! Check out your local trails. If your in NWI, check out some the rails to trails paths like the Iron Horse Heritage Trail or the Oak Savanna Trail.
