.@RevistaSemana article about #WVS7 results in Colombia 🇨🇴 and assessments by Andrés Casas (#WVS PI in Colombia 🇨🇴 & visiting scholar @penn): https://t.co/1yR5zMg8Za English: https://t.co/PnZ9f0mdJf Many thanks @davidescobara@Comfama for funding the survey in Colombia 🇨🇴!
We explore several explanations for this finding, and show that it is consistent with the argument that it is easier for the rich to buy themselves out of service when income inequality is high. 4/4
This plot summarizes the main results: y-axis shows the share of those who are willing to fight for their country, and x-axis indicates indiv. income quintile 👇3/4
We find that 1. High country-level income inequality is associated w/ low willingness to fight for one's country; 2. The rich are less willing to fight than the poor when income inequality is high; 3. No difference between the rich and the poor when inequality is low 2/4
Excited to share our article w/ @soccerquant and Sivan Hirsh-Hoefler now in print in @BJPolS. We study the relationship between state-level income inequality, individual income, and willingness to fight for one's country in war using @ValuesStudies 👇1/4

@ValuesStudies The 7th wave of the WVS/EVS (2017-2020), with surveys in 80+ countries, will be out in July. We want more! Can you help to fund and conduct surveys in countries not yet included? If interested, contact [email protected] asap. See https://t.co/gGHCqqHbLR
@Kunkakom @ValuesStudies@evs_values What a great idea! Certainly! I'll ask the Archive to get onto this.
BTW, it a brilliant survey: new batteries on online participation, inequality, corruption, trust, etc etc., new countries, and new national metadata to make it more user-friendly.
@Kunkakom @ValuesStudies@evs_values The WVS 7th wave questionnaire is now uploaded and available at the bottom of the page in the link below: how's that for service? https://t.co/eGKpbpWSrU
For those who still need convincing of the multidimensional pattern of party competition - here is the position of VOTERS in Western democracies. The GOP one of the most socially conservative - and US Dems very centrist. As @NormOrnstein has argued. @ValuesStudies
Unfortunately our survey is not conducted annually but you shouldn't miss this @EdSurge podcast with Sarah Stitzlein @UC_CECH@uofcincy about her #openaccess book "Learning How to Hope: Reviving Democracy through our Schools and Civil Society" (https://t.co/q1NUHOLou9):
