Rebekah nodded slowly. “That actually sounds almost perfect.”

But when the conversation turned to bears, she had to laugh. “And bears? Come on. After Niklaus, a few grumpy bears would probably seem downright relaxing to me.”

For a brief moment, she gently rested her head against Katherine’s. “We could find a house that’s way too big right on the coast. With a fireplace, an ocean view, and a wine cellar that hopefully lasts longer than two days.”

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

Rebekah stared at Klaus for a few seconds before an incredulous laugh escaped her lips. “My duty?” She set down her glass and followed him to the couch. “Nik, I’m your sister, not one of your damn subjects.” Rebekah stopped right in front of him and crossed her arms. “I’ve stood by your side for a thousand years. I fled with you from Mikael, made your enemies my own, and put up with more of your outbursts than any sane person would willingly endure.”

She narrowed her eyes. “So don’t lecture me about my duty.” Her voice grew more urgent. “If anyone is after our family, I’ll stand by your side. If Mikael comes, I’ll fight by your side. And if Marcel actually tries to destroy us, I won’t just stand by and watch either.”

Rebekah stood in the middle of the living room at the Mikaelson estate, staring at the dagger she’d just found on the table. Of course. A damn dagger. “Some families keep old photos,” she muttered. -

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

Rebekah’s eyebrows shot up. “Basically, all of that?” She laughed softly, incredulously. “Of course. By now I should have known that the answer is never simple when it comes to your family.” Her expression, however, grew more serious. “So Cole isn’t just adapting. He’s actually evolving, but his own body is deliberately limiting that process so that the evolution doesn’t end up destroying him.”

Rebekah let the information sink in for a moment. “That’s both impressive and scary.”

[Crimsonfang @FangOFCrimson]

"Technically all of the above. He has a system that keeps him from growing too fast so his body can maintain itself."

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

Rebekah returned Katherine’s smile, though this time there was surprisingly little mockery in it. “That’s exactly what I mean.” She looked down the street for a moment. “In Mystic Falls, I’m a Mikaelson. In New Orleans, I’m Niklaus’s little sister, an original vampire, or a thousand-year-old problem that would have been better off not coming back.” Then she shot Katherine a sidelong glance. “And you’re Katherine Pierce everywhere. The woman who ran away from Klaus five hundred years ago, drove all the Salvators crazy, and probably has more enemies in more cities than I have pairs of shoes.” A grin spread across her lips. “Impressive, by the way.”

Rebekah stopped and turned slightly toward her. “So we should get out of here.” She said it as matter-of-factly as if she’d just decided to go to the nearest bar. “Just for a while. To some town where no one hears the names Mikaelson or Pierce and immediately has a story to tell about them.”

Rebekah’s gaze shifted from Elijah’s face to the bloodstains on his shirt. She slowly raised an eyebrow. “And you’re seriously claiming your day was just annoying?” She stepped closer and pointed at his shirt. “Elijah, you have blood on your beloved shirt. So by your standards, something must have happened that was downright rude.” A small smile flitted across her lips, but her eyes betrayed her genuine concern for her brother. She grabbed a glass, poured herself some whiskey as well, and sat down across from him. “But maybe you’re right. Peace seems to be a concept for our family that we only ever hear about, but never really experience.”

When Klaus’s name came up, Rebekah rolled her eyes. “Even in a completely quiet room, Nik finds a reason to get annoyed with someone within five minutes. We should probably enjoy this rare moment while he’s not here.”

Rebekah had already drunk two glasses of wine when she heard the familiar sound of footsteps behind her. Calm. Controlled. Almost ridiculously elegant. She didn’t need to turn around.

“Elijah.” A small smile appeared on her lips as she -

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

“Relax, Katerina. For once, I don’t plan on hatching any schemes.” She shot her a meaningful sideways glance. “And if I do, you’ll find out soon enough.” A cheeky grin spread across her lips.

“I was actually thinking more about going somewhere where nobody knows our names, where the champagne is expensive and the music is so loud that we can forget for a few hours just how incredibly exhausting our lives are.”

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

Rebekah noticed Katherine’s farewell gesture to the man and immediately burst out laughing. “Very elegant, Katherine.” She glanced back over her shoulder one last time. “Although he did order us beer. Maybe he actually deserved it.”

Once outside, Rebekah breathed in the cool night air and linked arms with Katherine again. “And yes, we’ve definitely taken care of the alcohol part.”

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

Rebekah was silent for a moment, visibly trying to process this latest revelation about his increasingly absurd family. “Adapolution.” She repeated the word slowly and raised an eyebrow. “Adaptation fused with evolution. Of course. Why would anyone in your family be something as simple as an ordinary vampire or werewolf?” An amused smile flitted across her lips.

“And you call Cole the best of you all, even though he, too, is something completely new.” Rebekah grew visibly more curious. “At least that explains why you talk about him differently than you do about your older brothers.” She crossed her arms.

“But what does that actually mean, Crimsonfang? When Cole adapts to something, does he continue to evolve? Does he get stronger when he’s confronted with new powers or dangers?”

[Crimsonfang @FangOFCrimson]

"To be honest my eldest brother and the older of the three teenage brothers are the most complicated of my family. My eldest brother is the Origin like i may have said. Now Cole is the best of all of us but not us he is something new Adaptation fused with Evolution, Adapolution."

Rebekah let him pull her closer without breaking eye contact for even a second. As he spoke, she slowly raised an eyebrow. “Women who think they can handle you?” A soft, amused laugh escaped her. “Oh, Damon. You’re forgetting again who you’re talking to.” Her hands glided over his chest and finally came to rest on his collar. “I’m an original vampire. I’ve seen kings, warriors, and men with egos far bigger than yours come and go.”

She pulled him a little closer to her. “And yet here you are, trying to convince me that you’re the danger.” Rebekah’s gaze lingered deliberately on his lips before she looked him straight in the eyes again. “How charming.”

With vampiric speed, she suddenly shifted her position and pinned Damon against the nearest wall. A triumphant smile spread across her face. “But I have to give you credit for one thing, Salvatore.” Her lips hovered close to his. “I like your confidence.” Rebekah kissed him briefly but pulled away immediately. The defiant gleam in her eyes grew stronger.

Good morning,my darlings

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

Rebekah blinked at him for a moment. “Four of you are older than creation itself… and yet you have brothers who are still teenagers?” She slowly raised both eyebrows. “And I thought an age difference of a few centuries between siblings was complicated enough.”

A soft laugh escaped her. “I take it all back, Crimsonfang. Your family is actually even stranger than mine. That’s quite an impressive feat.”

[Crimsonfang @FangOFCrimson]

"I think that might be an understatement. There are four of us that predates creation but a few brothers who are only teenagers."

Rebekah’s gaze shifted from Katherine to the bartender, who now looked as if he were on the verge of a nervous breakdown at any moment. “Contrasting styles?” She raised an eyebrow and pointed alternately at the two of them. “You probably mean that you’re the one causing the chaos, and I’m the one making sure we at least look fantastic while doing it.”

When the bartender pointed to the bill again—obviously asking for an explanation—Rebekah glanced at the total. Her eyes widened briefly. “Oh.” Then she couldn’t help but grin. “Well, that explains his expression.” She leaned a little closer to Katherine. “I think we just spent more in a few hours than this guy probably makes in a month.” Rebekah sat up straight again and gave the annoyed bartender her most charming smile. “Darling, you really should relax. Stress causes wrinkles.”

Then she hooked her arm through Katherine’s and slowly led her toward the exit. “Come on, Katherine. I think our evening here is slowly coming to an end.” She glanced back over her shoulder one last time. “Besides, you promised me a night full of bad decisions.”

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

Rebekah immediately raised an eyebrow with interest at the name. “Ebion.” A small smile appeared on her lips. “So, Kallen’s father. Hope has already mentioned his name, but apparently she’s withheld some interesting details about this family from me.” She crossed her arms and looked at Crimsonfang curiously.

“And has Hybridia met her too?” Rebekah shook her head slightly. “Darling, I’m starting to get the feeling that Hope knows more members of your family than I do.”

[Crimsonfang @FangOFCrimson]

"Thats actually very similar to what my two elder brothers had told me. Ebion and the eldest Hybridia have both met her. Ebion is Kallen’s father."

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

Rebekah watched as Katherine finished off the rest of the bottle, then raised an eyebrow amusedly. “I’m just as chaotic as you?” She placed a hand over her heart and feigned outrage. “Katherine, I have style. You have chaos. That’s a huge difference.”

Rebekah stood up, smoothed out her dress, and then shot Katherine a defiant look. “And ‘friend’? After all that champagne, I would have at least expected ‘dearest Rebekah.’”

The remark about the fireplace made her laugh, though. “His stuff in the fireplace? You’re already planning to divorce a man whose last name we probably don’t even know yet.”

She grabbed Katherine’s hand and pulled her up from the table.

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

Rebekah watched her brother in silence for a few seconds. Then she reached for the whiskey bottle and poured herself a glass. “You don’t have to constantly remind me of my mistake, Nik. Believe me, you’ve done an excellent job over the last few centuries of making sure I never forget it.” She stepped up beside Klaus at the window and looked down at New Orleans as well. “And I’m not asking you to run away from it.” Rebekah took a sip. “Quite the opposite. I’ve watched Mikael chase us from one place to the next for long enough. I’m just as sick of it as you are.” Her gaze wandered over the city streets.

“New Orleans was our home. We built this city together. And if you want it back, I won’t stand in your way.” Then she turned to Klaus. “But that’s exactly why you should finally start using your damn brain before you declare war on everyone.” She tapped his whiskey glass lightly. “If our enemies are joining forces, it’s because they fear you, yes. But fear makes people dangerous. Desperate enemies do downright stupid things.” At the mention of Marcel, her expression changed briefly.

“And Marcel isn’t just any opponent, Nik. You raised him. I loved him. We both know he won’t give up this city without a fight.”

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

Rebekah clinked her bottle against Katherine’s glass and shot the man an amused glance as his marriage apparently fell apart right then and there over the phone. “On his porch? Katherine, judging by the look on his face, he’ll be lucky if his stuff isn’t already scattered all over the lawn by the time he gets home.” She took a sip of champagne and leaned back contentedly.

“And now you want to pay him a visit, too?” Rebekah laughed softly. “Of course you do. Why settle for a little marital crisis when Katherine Pierce herself can show up and make the chaos complete? All right, then, let’s go.”

[𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒌𝒂𝒉 𝑴𝒊𝒌𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 @VampireInHeels]

She raised her champagne glass and clinked it lightly against Katherine’s. “I take it all back. This is much more entertaining than I expected.” While the man on the phone was apparently trying to explain the situation to his wife, Rebekah watched him briefly with a decidedly satisfied grin. “Look at him. Expensive suit, big gestures, and probably not even enough money in his own account to pay for our champagne.” She shook her head in disappointment. “Newbie.”

Then Rebekah let her gaze wander slowly around the bar. “But you’re right. In Mystic Falls, there are plenty of men with too much money and far too little sense.”

Suddenly, her gaze fell on a new candidate. “Oh.” Rebekah discreetly pointed her bottle in his direction. “That one over there.” A mischievous smile spread across her lips. “A tailored suit, a watch that actually looks expensive, and he just ordered a bottle that our current friend obviously can’t afford.”
