The Mediterranean velvet spider is really cool!
They dont need a water source, they prefer a completely dry environment. They get all their water from their prey. Misting or watering them can be fatal!
They create silk lined burrows under rocks and twigs, where they lay in wait to ambush their food. They often use debris like soil and twigs and leaves to disguise and fortify their burrow. Their webbing also often has a soft pink hue to it, although you cant quite see it in this photo. Thats something very rare for spiders, and we dont really know why they have it!
They do have a medically significant bite, its quite painful, but not life threatening. When theyre born, the babies eat their mother, using her as their first sustenance to help them survive the dry harsh Mediterranean climate.
They are diurnal, meaning unlike most spiders they are most active in the daytime!
These are lovely spiders, and relatively easy to care for! I really recommend them if you’re comfortable in the hobby. The photos I’m including here are not mine, but show you how gorgeous they are as adults!
I remember bursting out laughing in the theater when this scene happened and some grown man with a batman t-shirt turned around and looked at me like I killed Michael Keaton myself
An especially large entity found in an exterior area of the Far Plane. No footsteps sound from it as it walks, so it is theorized that it somehow walks upon the clouds and fog that envelop this place.
