Ever wonder where your state tax dollars actually go?
Michigan’s total budget is $76.6 billion — but here’s what most people don’t realize: only $14.6 billion of that is General Fund money, funded directly by the taxes you pay. The rest — over 80% — is federal money or funds locked by law to a specific purpose, like the School Aid Fund.
So where does YOUR $14.6 billion actually go?
🔹 51% → Health & Human Services ($7.4B)
🔹 21% → Public Safety & Corrections ($3.1B)
🔹 12% → Education ($1.8B)
🔹 12% → General Government, Legislature & Judiciary ($1.8B)

Before we talk about where your NEXT tax dollar should go, someone needs to answer for where the last $8.5 billion went. Michigan’s own Auditor General — not a partisan source, the state’s own auditors — found that the Unemployment Insurance Agency paid out up to $8.5 billion in fraudulent claims during the pandemic. $245 million went to people who were dead, incarcerated, or in nursing homes. The agency under-collected $840 million in fraud penalties it should have assessed. Then it spent $78 million fixing the broken system (MiDAS) that caused it — and paid $20 million more settling with people it wrongly accused along the way.
These are the real numbers, straight from the state’s own books. Know where your money goes. Then ask why nobody’s been held accountable for where $8.5 billion of it went missing.

ORDER ENTERED STOPPING DESTRUCTION: Less than 24 hours after we filed, the Michigan Court of Claims just ordered the August 4 election records PRESERVED, despite Michigan Secretary of State’s Jocelyn Benson’s voter record deletion rule.
The Court's own words: defendants are DIRECTED to preserve "the electronic pollbook software and associated files" in a secure manner pending the resolution of this matter.
Translation: nothing gets deleted while a judge decides which law controls.
The Court also put the whole case on an expedited schedule. The State's response is due August 20. Because, in the Court's words, the deletion date "is fast approaching."
That's how fast this moved: filed Wednesday afternoon. Preservation order Thursday morning.
The records exist. They stay existing. And a court will answer the question my client asked the State 38 days ago.

PICK A CRIME: That's the choice Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson handed my client, a township clerk.
A new state rule Benson made orders my client to DELETE the electronic poll book records of the August 4 primary within 7 days of certification. What’s the problem? Federal law orders her to KEEP those same records for 22 months, into 2028.
Delete them? Face up to 1 year of imprisonment under federal law. Refuse? Up to 90 days imprisonment under Michigan law. Every path carries a penalty aimed at my client personally. For trying to follow the law.
My client wrote Jocelyn Benson and the Director of Elections on July 6 and asked one question: how do I obey both? Thirty-seven days. NO ANSWER.
So we asked a judge, while the records still exist. No more waiting around. Declare which law controls. Preserve the voting records.
