A sale barn in Uvalde, Texas, is communicating with its customers and buyers. They are in a restricted zone for New World screwworm, but it is not a lockdown.

Livestock can still be sold as long as the rules are followed and the animals are healthy.

In Kerrville, Texas I asked Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins if the border with Mexico will open to live cattle imports now that New World Screwworm is in the U.S.

“It is not lost on me,” she says. “We will continue to watch the data very, very, very closely.”
