Vanderbilt students WALKED OUT today in solidarity with Palestine and the expelled and suspended protestors
We have had ENOUGH of Vanderbilt’s surveillance, intimidation, and suppression of students
- 3 VANDERBILT STUDENTS EXPELLED
- 1 STUDENT SUSPENDED
- 20+ PLACED ON PROBATION
Following a 21 hour sit-in of the Chancellor’s office in support of Palestine.
This is GROSSLY EXCESSIVE, UNPRECEDENTED, and we WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS

Vanderbilt University has suspended 25 student protestors leaving them INDEFINITELY WITHOUT HOUSING.
The MAJORITY of these students are low income and on financial aid from the university.
The Housing Community of Vanderbilt condemn this UNPRECEDENTED and EXTREME repression.
Vanderbilt has a LONG history of student movement suppression. Their goal is to create a narrative that students made a MISTAKE and gave up.
DOT NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS AGAIN.

In the 60s, Vanderbilt expelled a noted civil rights activist, NOW the university has suspended 26 students for fighting against the genocide in Gaza.
@VanderbiltU, SHAME.
Inside a Vanderbilt building student protestors were:
- Denied access to food
- Denied access to water
- Denied access to bathrooms
- Publicly humiliated as students peed in bottles while campus police stared on
- Intentionally woken up every 30 minutes by police screaming
EXTREME STUDENT REPRESSION BY VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY
- 25 protestors removed of their housing (majority on financial aid)
- 4 students arrested
- @ejmotycka—a journalist—arrested for covering the event
- All media BANNED from entering campus without explicit permission
This decision will not go down without a FIGHT. We will demand that @VanderbiltU LET US VOTE!

Free Palestine 🇵🇸
Vanderbilt University just CANCELLED our vote to divest our student government from companies complicit in the genocide in Gaza.
This is UNPRECEDENTED repression from one of the most influential academic institutions in the COUNTRY.
Our university is living up to its legacy of suppressing fights for human rights and morality. In the past, Vanderbilt expelled civil-rights activist James Lawson, crossed the apartheid South Africa boycott picket line, invested in for-profit prisons, etc.
We say NO MORE.
BREAKING: Vanderbilt students CONFRONT university chancellor Daniel Diermeier for his SILENCE and lack of condemnation of the genocide in Gaza!

NOW: We’re a diverse group of student orgs on Vanderbilt’s campus that are FED-UP with university silence & inaction on the Palestinian genocide.
Today, we launch the Vanderbilt Divest Coalition, DEMANDING our tuition not be spent on militarism & the illegal Israeli occupation.
This will effectively ensure not a penny of the $200,000 in university funding allocated towards our student government will aid the systemic oppression and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
