I recently saw a woman comment that any church with a female pastor should be defellowshipped, even if she’s “just a children’s pastor,” because teaching children is “not a pastoral role.”
I’m not sure what she meant by that, but her comment got me thinking.
We really don’t value women’s contributions in the church in large part because we don’t view teaching and raising children as important. In many churches, it’s akin to babysitting or housekeeping. Men who teach adults have expensive educations and credentials. Women who teach kids are on par with the janitor (except the janitor gets paid).
And then we wonder why the church is shrinking generation by generation. What if it’s because children don’t feel valued by the church? What if they view church, emotionally, in the same way they view daycare or summer camp at the YMCA? What if those kids are growing up and not coming back, because teaching kids was not treated as a “pastoral role,” but an expendable benefit or mundane chore?
Or maybe it’s because women and moms work harder than most deacons and elders in many Complementarian churches only to be ignored and taken for granted because God made them to do childcare in the same way Oster makes toasters to toast bread. It’s expected. It’s mundane. It’s not exceptional. It’s women’s work.
God was on the throne...
...during slavery
...during the Holocaust
...when women and children worked in dangerous conditions
...during Internment camps and Jim Crow
God being on the throne does not permit Christians to rest smugly in privileged peace in the midst of injustice.
@alexxxandria23 The worst part is previously making plans on my very limited off days only to disappoint them when I can’t drag myself out of bed - furthering the guilt and self-deprecation.
Depression comes from a place of purposelessness; a deep, encumbering emptiness. Majority go into therapy seeking happiness, yet happiness is inherently transient. No drug will stockpile happiness for you. It is a byproduct of vitality. Find purpose, create order; then hapiness.
morgan wallen’s new song really has me out here hoping my exes/ old friends are thriving & living their best lives. like it’s a beautiful thing to have crossed paths with people, heard about their dreams & now see them fulfilling them today. God’s plan is always a perfect plan
Lesson learned. If you put your phone into something like.. say.. a lawn chair cup holder on a boat it might be tight enough to trigger the “SOS” button. And if you don’t check your phone in a bit you’ll find they’ll send a rescue crew for you without you knowing 😬
