🍉 Equity & intersectionality. Stop privatization!
My opinions are obviously my own.
Maturity is realizing that all the most attractive & intriguing people you know are deeply curious about the world and keen to learn new things, and all the people saying things like, “I’m excited for AI to make books obsolete” are weird loser hobgoblins.
One little girl who didn't like reading before she was in my class told me why she now loves books, "Because you get so excited about books that I wanted to see why and I found out you were right."
People say AI is a magic shortcut to creativity & success. I’ll tell you the real secret and it’s voraciously reading, being interested in everything, being diligent in the pursuit of learning, paying attention to the interior lives of others & keeping a heart open to the world.
@dresdendoll Ok, you know what? You've inspired me! When I go to stay at my parents' house for Christmas, I'm gonna clear off the treadmill in their basement and get started too!
@Beef_Catalogue@wwxwashere Yes! Many understandably don't like the non-stable nature of temp work & lack of health benefits, vacation, etc. but I had decently paid work for about 5 years in my 20s through temp agencies & that experience also got me better jobs later. Shortest was 4 hours, longest 11 months
@g0thgoblin been worth it for me for a superior reheat of leftovers and freezer food. Not a full replacement for the toaster oven for me though. A few things end up too hard in the air fryer. I hear people who typically do their own cooking or big batches sometimes prefer convection oven
The secret to getting kids to read is the same thing that worked in the nineties. Reading Rainbow. Pizzas. Shakespeare rom-coms & Austen adaptations. Movies where a guy gifts his beloved an enormous library. Dog who acts out the classics. Kids will read if they think books are cool.
Bradbury, Huxley and all the great dystopian writers knew this and tried to warn us. It's easy to make a population dumber if you drown them in a sea of information.
