62 y/o Aussie, divorced, 3 kids & 5 grandkids, retired public servant, keen fisherman & photographer.
I started smoking cigarettes at 12 while living in the U.S. & continued to smoke for over 40 yrs.
I hated the taste.
Hated smelling of smoke & finding pinprick burns in clothing, furniture & car upholstery.
I hated the dirty ashtrays & yellow stained fingers & teeth.
I’d tried everything to give up. From hypnosis & acupuncture to Champix & Zyban. Cold turkey & Doctor assisted Quitline. Nothing worked, nothing stuck. I was pretty much resigned to smoking for life & dying early.
Nearly 8 years ago I saw a post on Facebook that showed a “new” style of #vaping device & I immediately went into research mode. I investigated all aspects of devices, juices, safety & the logistics of Nicotine use in Australia.
I went to my local bricks & mortar #vape store & received the most concise education/ advice & thus confidently began my #vaping journey.
I set the date, (1 May 2017) & got my new #vape gear ready to go.
My last night smoking I put the pack, with 3 smokes, into a kitchen draw & went to bed.
Next morning I started #vaping & never looked back. That’s right! I have never picked up a cigarette again. I gave up combustible tobacco OVERNIGHT!
All it took was good advice, good equipment & social support from other #vapers both locally & through social media.
I started by mixing a 12mg/ml level of nicotine into 2 of my favourite fruit flavours. Black Current with just a touch of “chill” & a 2nd batch of mango chill. I switched between the two.
Flavour choices are absolutely essential to a successful result. Never let anyone tell you otherwise.
To this day I’m still amazed by just how easy it was.
My health improved dramatically. Better lung capacity, lower blood pressure & importantly, a happier, more enthusiastic outlook on life. Even my varicose veins have disappeared.
I can never express how life altering the whole experience has been.
In fact that is the sole reason that I’m so passionate about #vaping advocacy. I NEED to share this miracle with anyone out there still smoking & looking for a way out.
So there it is. One man’s quit story condensed into a few words.
For those wondering, my costs have gone from approx $220 a week smoking cigarettes to approx $15 a week #vaping. No stink, no burns & far, far better health.
Win/ win as far as I can see.
But wait!
WHY are Governments around the world so “anti” #vape?
After all, the scientific evidence is now irrefutable. #VapingSavesLives
Why are they using children as scapegoats to try to ban #vaping? Don’t they realise these children would probably have taken up smoking combustible tobacco if #vaping wasn’t available?
A youth #vaping epidemic is a lie. Current statistics prove it!
Children experiment with adult products. They always have. Surely a safer product is preferable.
Nicotine is not the killer. Combustion is!
Most of these Govts & many, many large organisations have been relying on Tobacco Tax revenue to balance their books for decades. That income was always seen to be a reliable income stream.
That is, until a safer, cleaner, more successful harm reduction product hit the market.
Now we see Govts & Health bodies using campaigns of mis & disinformation to restrict access to #vaping while actively allowing combustible tobacco products to remain, thus ensuring their continued income.
The fact that combustible products KILL the majority of users doesn’t seem to deter this tax grab.
Remember, Govt Taxes on cigarettes in Australia make up nearly 80% of the cost of a packet of cigarettes.
It’s a multi billion dollar fraud carried out by Govts & institutions we should be able to trust.
The world needs to wake up & demand we embrace this new modern technology & start saving lives.
>20K deaths in Australia & >8M deaths worldwide from combustible tobacco. Per year!
It really is criminal.

FACT CHECK: @markhollandlib adults like flavours. Here's another Canadian who uses flavoured vapes to keep her smoke-free. #FlavoursMatter#VapingSavesLives

"The risks of vaping are much lower than those of smoking, but this fact isn't being effectively communicated," Case in point 🇨🇦Minister of Health sharing misinformation about imaginary deaths and illness surrounding vaping. Do better @markhollandlib

Switching to vaping nicotine is less harmful than continuing to smoke cigarettes.
While vaping has risks, evidence also suggests that vaping can help adults quit smoking.

This graph shows the trend in current smoking rates of 15-19 year olds over 18 years.
Within 5 years of vaping being introduced, the youth smoking rate decreased at double the highest previous decrease!
Is vaping preventing youth smoking uptake?

@Alas_Poor_Mac@ChickenGate Well. I guess if you round up all the ‘near-beer’ off the streets of Halifax you can actually increase more sales of Alexander Keith’s
@Mylene_1985 @papaioannoy Too much demand for that to work. What would that even look like? Are they going to build Vape shops into every Shoppers Drug Mart and hire away all the current vape store employees?
