Black-owned bookstores in the U.S. now have their own directory for the first time ever, launched by the nonprofit National Association of Black Bookstores β who found that:
β’ There are 306 Black-owned bookstores nationwide (8% of independent bookstores)
β’ 14 states have no Black-owned bookstore
β’ Nearly 90% report annual revenue at under $250,000
β’ Sales of books by Black authors declined by 14%, despite an increase in overall print sales

This is a day of rest for many. We all rest in different ways. It can look like lounging, spending time with family, or reading π!

Big shout out to @HCPCT2 for staying in contact w/ my mom & returning her calls daily 2 get this facility the resources they need.
I hope all the other Houston area nursing homes that are in the same situation also get power back soon. This was a much needed win!

@theninaparker I got lucky that I was assigned to create a digital version of our intake form and when I was going over it with my boss, her boss came in as well and I made the point to show them how outdated our form was and that we are trained to not do/ask many of these questions anymore
@theninaparker What's crazy is everyone in leadership at my job are Black women, but I still have to navigate a large age/generational gap that still does not allow me to say/display certain things because they keep up this respectability barrier that negatively effects us PTs & our clients
The transformer in our backyard and at the end of the block blew just as the storm started rolling through
Then hail π§
Don't think it was a tornado but it sure roared liked one

Boomers are the ultimate complainers by far in MY life and as much as I'd like to financially support my family, I simply can't and they KNOW that.
Why guilt trip us for things out of our control?
And whenever I point out this contradiction, they get upset and suddenly it's "I don't know where this is coming from! You're not making any sense."
I've even shown my mom text exchanges where she did this and all I get is "I don't understand what you're trying to point out."
I thought it was just my mom for years, but I'm learning most people n that age range are like this. I offer to pay for specific things to help WHEN I CAN but either get
1) no it's ok. I know you can't afford it
Or
2) I'd rather you just give me the cash to pay other bills π§
I'll never understood why Boomers think continuously complaining about rising costs while both
1) saying they understand their kids don't make much and know they can't contribute
But also
2) regularly asking why their kids don't just give them money to help with said cost
@KimberlyLemming I love Hating the squirrels in my neighborhood. It's been full-on gorilla warfare my whole life with very good justified reasons. If there's one thing our entire neighborhood can bond over, it's the fucking squirrels!
And boy do we get creative
@DoctorJonPaul I say all the time:
There's a ton of people with kids that aren't parents.
It's not a criticism but a fact in every way you read that sentence. The more people accept that, the easier it becomes to understand them.
