It’s now proven: Lőrinc Mészáros’s companies, built up with public money, gave billions of forints to fund Viktor Orbán’s most disgusting propaganda machine, Megafon.
How long will the State Audit Office stay silent about this illegal campaign financing?
▪️A BYD ügyében három fő állításra válaszolt:
Grand slam! Congratulations to President @MiloradDodik and all our friends at SNSD - especially President Cvijanović and President Minić - on sweeping today’s elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska.
A strong mandate to continue standing up for the interests and rights of Republika Srpska.
In September, the central budget deficit was 210 billion forints lower than a year earlier. Over four months, the budget balance improved by 1,200 billion forints by cutting unnecessary and overpriced spending.
Hungary is a warning to conservatives across the West. The left has learned to campaign as moderate, even conservative. Once in power, it breaks its promises and turns against the very values it claimed to defend.
I joined @arielwhi1 on The Western Spirit podcast to discuss what happened in Hungary and what others can learn from it.
Those who spent 16 years accusing us of authoritarianism are now banning political opponents from re-election, removing constitutional office holders and dismantling conservative media and institutions. With Brussels backing them, they are building a system of authoritarian liberalism.
But conservatives must also learn from our defeat. Defending national sovereignty, protecting our borders and supporting families are essential. So is making sure that people can make ends meet. If voters feel economically insecure, promises of “hope and change” can win them over, even when those making the promises have no intention of keeping them.
We also discussed mass migration, Europe’s demographic decline, Hungary’s friendship with Israel and sanctions that hurt European economies without achieving their stated goals.
My conviction remains the same: patriotic movements must focus on their own communities, protect their way of life and give the next generation a better future. Nobody else will do that for us.

A criminal case is being prepared against Viktor Orbán in Hungary
The country’s new authorities have launched an investigation into the actions of the former prime minister.
One of the episodes may involve the detention of Ukrainian cash-in-transit guards transporting gold and cash worth €70 million.
After winning the April elections, Magyar and his supporters announced Operation “Purifying Fire,” aimed at investigating corruption schemes from the 16 years of Orbán’s rule.
Water levels on the Danube are expected to be even lower in the coming days than they were in August. Thanks to the construction work at Paks ordered by the government and the bed sill completed within a few weeks, there is currently no threat of a shutdown at the Paks Nuclear Power Plant.
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar campaigned as a moderate who would defend families and national interests, then turned sharply left once in office.
Alex Soros, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and European Union leaders celebrated his victory.
Americans should pay attention.
Recently, in these pages, Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban presented her government as moderate (“Hungary embraces a new era under Peter Magyar,” Web, Sept. 29), but Mr. Magyar’s campaign promises have given way to radical policies and an assault on conservative opponents.
Viktor Orban is prohibited from returning as prime minister and leading opposition figures have also been barred from running for office. Hungarians have been denied the chance to bring their former leader back, as Americans did with President Trump.
Constitutional changes also ended the terms of constitutional office holders.
The state nationalized conservative institutions, including Mathias Corvinus Collegium and the Danube Institute, seized and closed Hungary’s largest conservative media outlet and temporarily shut the museum commemorating communism’s victims.
The former culture minister is under arrest and authorities seized the opposition’s records on party members and activists.
Hungarians recognize these methods from the communist era: Political opponents are treated as enemies and independent institutions are brought under state control.
The government is also dismantling conservative policies on gender and the family, is repealing child-protection provisions and preparing to allow same-sex marriage and adoption by same-sex couples.
Parents have lost free access to the child sex-offender registry. Groups promoting gender ideology have returned to schools and the media.
Hungary’s government has rolled over for Brussels, rejoining the International Criminal Court and abandoning resistance to EU migration rules.
Promised tax cuts have morphed into plans for higher taxes, including an annual wealth tax that is already driving capital away.
Viktor Orban accepted defeat in April and handed over power after 16 years of being falsely branded a dictator. Still, his opponents seek to destroy his movement.
Conservatives retain the right to organize and win elections. By the time voters demand change, the government may have dismantled the institutions that make it possible.
This is liberal authoritarianism. Don’t let them fool you, America.

Following an on-field incident at last week’s Hungary-Ukraine football match, Hungarian international and Liverpool player Milos Kerkez and his father were added to a list of “enemies of Ukraine.”
This is completely unacceptable.
We expect the Ukrainian government to clearly distance itself from this and take action!
