That means 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹, 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Wearside did not vote for this.

While Labour takes powers away from local communities, 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗯 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆.

We are already working relentlessly to strengthen Sunderland’s position, protect our neighbourhoods and make sure every available power is used before the deadline hits.

3️⃣ Our third and final motion at first full council is a motion to end the Climate Emergency Declaration and Associated Schemes.

For years, Sunderland City Council has pursued policies driven by a self-declared "Climate Emergency" - while residents face rising cost of living, stretched services and financial pressures.

Reform Wearside have submitted a motion to scrap the declaration and put common sense back at the heart of decision making.

The motion would:
- End the Climate Emergency declaration
- Review spending commitments and policies linked to the declaration
- Ensure motorists and working people are not unfairly penalised by Council policy
- Continue practical environmental improvements that deliver real local benefits

We all want clean streets, green spaces and a protected coastline. But Council policy should be driven by evidence, affordability and local priorities, not by ideological targets and net zero.

1️⃣ Our first motion is to suspend Sunderland’s involvement in the City of Sanctuary Scheme.

The scheme was an ideological commitment voted for unanimously by the previous Labour administration supported by the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives, WITHOUT consulting Wearside residents.

Reform UK believes the council should focus on local residents, local services and local concerns first.
