Patrushev is in China for five days. Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board and aide to the president, he arrived on October 8 for meetings with Wang Yi and several government agencies, with the agenda centered on maritime cooperation.

In Shanghai, he toured the Waigaoqiao shipyard. Discussions covered strengthening ties between the two countries’ shipbuilding industries and exchanging engineering expertise between Russian design bureaus and Chinese shipyard design departments.

In a separate meeting with Ke Jixin of China’s industry ministry, the two sides discussed scientific and technological cooperation in shipbuilding, including joint fundamental and applied research in the maritime sector. They examined bringing Chinese shipbuilding corporations in as technology partners and equipment suppliers for planned and new shipbuilding complexes in Russia. Both identified advanced information technologies in shipbuilding as a promising field.
