Varyn's Daily Life and His Connection to Nature.
#InkPromptSociety
Varyn's days began before the sun crested the horizon, when the world was still caught in that liminal space between night and morning. The cottage had been his mother's before him, and her mother's before that, stretching back through generations of forest keepers who had served this land.
He would lie still, his eyes closed, his breathing slow and deliberate, and he soaked in the sounds of nature waking up. The birds beginning their dawn chorus, each species adding its voice to the symphony.
And beneath it all, the heartbeat of the land itself. A deep, resonant hum that vibrated through his bones, as familiar as his own pulse.
The Morning Rituals
Varyn rose with the sun, stepping barefoot onto the cool earth. He rarely wore shoes within his land. He preferred to feel the soil beneath his feet, to maintain that physical connection with the land he served. His soles were tough as leather, calloused from years of walking among roots and stones.
He brewed his morning coffee slowly, savoring the ritual as much as the drink itself. The scent of roasted beans filled the cottage, mingling with the earthy aroma of moss and bark.
The morning air was cool against his skin. He settled into the chair he'd woven from living willow branches years ago, and as if summoned by the creak of his weight, Fenrir emerged from the treeline. The direwolf moved with the quiet grace of a predator, his silver and grey fur catching the first light of dawn.
"Good morning, old friend," Varyn murmured, reaching out to stroke the massive head. Fenrir pressed into his touch, a low rumble of contentment vibrating through his chest.
Varyn's fingers found the ridge of scar tissue on Fenrir's belly, just behind his left foreleg. The wound that had first brought them together. He remembered the weight of the dying wolf in his arms, the way the snow had turned red beneath them, the desperate hours of the blizzard night when he'd channeled his own warmth into Fenrir's body, fighting the elements to save his life.
He hadn't expected Fenrir to survive. He certainly hadn't expected him to return.
But return he did. Every few weeks, without fail, the direwolf would appear at the edge of the tree line.Β HeΒ simply sat beside Varyn in silence, watching the sun rise.
Varyn's life was attuned to the cycles of the natural world.
Spring was his favorite season. Not for the warmth, which was often fleeting, but for the awakening. He would walk the groves at dawn, his bare feet sinking into the thawing earth, and he would feel the stirring of roots beneath him. The trees were waking from their long sleep.
He felt a low hum that resonated with the quickening pulse of the land. Around him, green shoots pushed through the soil, unfurling with the urgency of new life as the days passed.
"Welcome back," he whispered.
Summer brought abundance. The groves were at their most vibrant, a riot of color and sound and life. Varyn worked from dawn to dusk, pruning and shaping, encouraging growth, protecting against pests and blight. The long days were filled with purpose and wonder.
Autumn was a time of preparation and release. He harvested seeds and nuts, preserved herbs and fruits. Reinforced the cottage against the coming cold. He watched the trees through their transformation, honoring the beauty of their dying leaves even as he mourned their passing.
Winter was for rest. But his watch didn't end with the first frost.
Winter was also a time of vigilance. The dormant months were when the land was most vulnerable. When the trees could not defend themselves, when the creatures of the wood were weak with hunger, when the boundary between the forest and the world beyond grew thin.
He walked the perimeter of his territory daily, even in the deepest snows.
The snow crunched beneath his boots as he made his way through the silent grove. His breath rose in soft clouds, dissipating into the grey winter sky. The trees stood bare and patient, their branches etched against the pale light like the veins of some great sleeping creature.
Varyn paused at the edge of a frozen stream, listening.
The world was quiet in winter, but not empty. Beneath the frost, beneath the snow, beneath the seemingly lifeless soil, he could feel the slow pulse of the land. The roots dreaming. The seeds waiting. The creatures curled in their burrows, their heartbeats slowed to match the rhythm of the season.
He looked out across the white expanse of his territory, and a warmth spread through his chest that had nothing to do with the layers of wool and fur he wore. This land was his charge, his responsibility, his sacred duty. But it was also his home.
His heart. His very soul.

In The Glitched Realm's Elven Kingdom, #Aeloria felt the light warp itself through the palace to escape from her. It was a very strange phenomenon... How can light itself deny her? Since she had been here, it was only ever midday, but she began to notice that wherever she stood, light refused her. The sun and the moon above moved, opposing her direction. It was as if they loved #Stasia, and hated her.
Was it because Stasia had stayed in the realm, while she had left? How could the sun and the moon even control their movements and radiance in such a way?
No.
Aeloria reminded herself that this realm was borne of intuition by herself and Stasia. Whatever was going on, was a direct reflection of that.
She wondered, as other beings existed in their own realms, what did they feel and think of their realm's behavior?
She extended her mind outward, reaching out to whimsical feelings and images:
Her beloved librarian, the guardian of tomes, #Velka. @Valerit_Mon.
A Druid from the city, @Shabriri_grapes.
The Tiger wielding his heart in a lantern, @UndeadBlackaxe.
A Vampyre, now encoded, @lugnut1975.
A girl whose will is not her own, @WFTverse.
