Location: Gorkha District along the Budhi Gandaki River corridor.

Event: On October 11, 2026, a flash flood carrying silt and gravel hit the Budhi Gandaki River in Gorkha’s Chumnubri Rural Municipality.

There is concern for damage downstream as far as Arughat. Nepali authorities warn of potential additional flooding in the region. Two pedestrian bridges and one vehicle bridge have been swept away. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and Flood Forecasting have urged residents and trekkers to immediately move to high, safe ground and to stay away from the riverbanks until the surge passes.

The Chumnubri Rural Municipality, Gorkha District is approximately 184 km northwest of Kathmandu. There is currently no flooding in the Kathmandu Valley. The Trihuban International Airport is not affected.

Road and Travel Conditions: The floodwaters have washed away three bridges in total including two pedestrian suspension bridges and one vehicle bridge.

Conditions can change without notice as authorities clear debris and assess damaged roads and bridges. Confirm current conditions with local authorities and your transportation or tour provider immediately before traveling.

Actions to Take:

· Stay away from riverbanks, low-lying areas, damaged bridges, and unstable infrastructure along the Budhi Gandaki River.

· If authorities evacuated you, remain in a safe location and do not return for belongings until authorities permit it.

· Never walk, swim, or drive through floodwater or cross a damaged road or bridge.

· Do not enter the disaster area independently to search for an out-of-contact traveler. Coordinate through Nepali authorities, the traveler’s tour or trekking company, and the U.S. Embassy.

· Monitor official weather and flood information at https://t.co/TYELtalnk0 or call the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s toll-free information line at 1155.

· If you are safe, contact your family, hotel, guide, and tour or trekking company. Use text, email, or messaging applications if telephone calls do not connect.

· U.S. citizens in or recently returned from an affected area should email [email protected] with their full name, current location, status, and tour or trekking company.

· To report an out-of-contact U.S. citizen, email the person’s full name, itinerary, last known location, tour or trekking company, and date and time of last contact to [email protected].
