One of the AGM decisions was to close THIS VdGS1 account. Any of you who don't also follow me @gamba_viola, please come there, where my aim to be informative and entertaining is so far more successful.
Opening the AGM of the VdG Society by zoom last night, Alison Crum talked of her near normal life this year, driving to Europe for concerts & making two trips to the USA where she was reunited with former students & also met a lot of new players. Viols are SO popular these days!
He was organist @KingsLynnMinstr for nearly a decade and a first Festival celebrating him was held a year ago @KLFestival. Look out for the second one in early autumn this year. A great artist, as was his daughter Fanny.
A super evening in Pinner on Saturday - lots of love for our new programme ‘The Leaves be Greene’, one audience member commenting ‘It was so beautifully thought out and delivered with poise skill and effortless musicality’. Thank you to all who came! A few rehearsal snippets...
From our friends at @Kings_College: this Sunday viol consort @phantasmviol perform a concert entitled From Despair to Bliss: Consort Music by East and Lawes.

@neill_bob@BBCLondonNews Well done! Lack of accountability, no impact assessments done by the Arts Council. Abolish it. Start again with separate smaller bodies, one devoted to REAL Arts (professionals) and museums and another to support Community Leisure.....
Nikolaus Harnoncourt and his wife, the violinist Alice Harnoncourt in Cafe Hawelka, Vienna (c.1956)

@NickRKenyon@DCMS@ace_national@E_N_O And it would be good to remember that all classical music performers, & their venues, are endangered by the 10 year strategy that ACE pursues vigorously. A letter 2 years ago from @dcms told us it's ACE's duty to support 20 kinds of music (punk, grunge, diasporic etc) all equally
There'll be many more events (both live and virtual) in 2023 as the VdG Society will be 75 years old......in fact exactly the same age as the Music Faculty @Cambridge_Uni....
Zooms of VdGS have been great for our international members & again this Thursday, 24 November 2022 at 7.00pm GMT, do all join us. Dr Thomas Munck will bring to life revolutionary & republican London (1640-1660), the context in which John Hingeston & Matthew Locke lived & worked.
Has anyone else been reading Thomas Mace's Musick Monument recently? The state of the Arts which he describes as, for example, jingle jangles perhaps resembles the results of the 'creative participation' that our Arts Council likes to fund. History always repeats itself.
Original cadenzas for the viol in the works of Abel, Lidl, Hammer and Haydn are the subject of the VdGS online session on Thursday 29th September at 7 pm (UK time)
What an unusual topic! All will be revealed by Nicholas Kleinman.
