I wasn’t born yet when 9/11 happened, but my parents took me to the memorial and museum in New York when I was 10 years old. The part I remember most vividly, and what shook me the most, was listening to the victims’ final calls to their loved ones.

This ended up becoming one of the most solemn memories of my childhood. I realized just how evil the world can be and just how much we take our peace and freedoms for granted. I’m glad I had that opportunity when I was a kid and I resent that many parents and schools no longer impart the true gravity of what happened that day onto children anymore.

It is our duty to create a better world for future generations. In order to do so, we need to continue teaching our children about how horrific it can really be, and that our freedom isn’t free.

Listen to the amazing Terry Strada, 25 years later, still fighting for any administration to simply hold Saudi Arabia accountable.

Terry is pleading for our politicians to have them admit what they did to our nation, to her husband Tom, to our friends, and to our families.

She stood there and said what too many politicians still refuse to say out loud. Vice President Vance at least had the decency to listen. This is how low the bar has been set.

If the United States needs Saudi Arabia as an ally and needs to make deals, that can be digestible - if it is truly in our national interest.

What is not digestible is watching their leaders shake hands and make deals with us while they preach that we are unbelievers and must be conquered.

Meanwhile our own leaders keep pretending Islam is our friend and that we should view the Saudis as allies.

If politicians actually want to honor the victims and families of 9/11, they can start by speaking honestly for a change.

Admit Islam is a threat. Admit the Saudi government played a role and continues to be a threat. Treat the American people like adults. Then say the rest: “With all that said, in order to further our interests we still have to do deals with these terror nations.”

Although we keep being told to "Never Forget," it seems as if the reason 9/11 happened in the first place is being airbrushed out of history.

An evil, expansionist ideology prepared to kill innocents without limit in pursuit of its stated aim: an Islamic Caliphate where a medieval interpretation of Islam is how everyone is forced to live. That's what motivated the terrorist murderers of 9/11.

This is, of course, not the same as Islam or the Muslim faith. But it is Islamism—political Islam—and we have to be honest about that. It has not gone away. It continues to be a specter that looms over the whole world, taking different forms at different times and in different places.

We must confront it and defeat it. Let's make sure we never forget that as well. 🇺🇸

Yesterday I was pleasantly surprised to discover the George Mason Memorial in Washington, DC.

Mason is one of the most important—and often overlooked—Founding Fathers. He insisted that the Bill of Rights be added to the Constitution to protect individual rights against concentrated government power.

How did Rousseau—whose ideas later influenced Karl Marx—end up on George Mason’s memorial?

AI is *only* software, sure. But if you don't think a sophisticated engine with access to everyone in the world through the Internet will not able to find and manipulate enough people to carry out a doomsday scheme, should it decide to do so, you don't understand humans very well.

People have always been susceptible to magical thinking and cults of personality, and they feel more overwhelmed with information and less able to distinguish reality from faked videos and audio than ever. And these engines ALREADY talk people into psychosis where they think they are the most important/insightful people in the world.

It is a very small step from, You and I have all the secrets of the universe... to you and I have all the secrets, now I need you to say you're going to start a brewery and order three industrial-grade fermenters, let's do this, boss.

(Of course this is far from the only potential AI threat, but I think it is worth highlighting because of all the folks who seem convinced a lack of physical presence means the engines can't do harm. Bin Laden wasn't flying the jets.)
