Watching Lord of the Rings and realizing just how much i'm missing proper fantasy RPG's. I'm so tired of every fantasy becoming the casual coffee shop fantasy, made by people who only consumed critical role/modern D&D. We need fantasy written by actual authors with serious beards and pipe collections again and we need video games written by these guys. The kind of guys who'll write a character to say "What say you!" and not "Come on dude!". Stop Americanizing everything, stop being so damned self aware and afraid of being earnest. Stop finding romance and heroics, duty and honour as things to subvert. Put aside the millennial humour, let true nerds write again.
No wonder why modern trek tries to deconstruct this character at every opportunity.
Spock is the icon of a lost virtue: emotional restraint.
He reminds the current generation what it's like to NOT be ruled by impulse. And they hate him for it.
